Door Handle Height

Is there a recommended height for door handles? Some BS EN or Part M thing? Got to fit this magnetic catch to the bathroom door along with the privacy latch which I assume goes below. Guessing there's some standard that puts everything relative to the lock rail?

 

In my case the magnetic and privacy units are separate so to some extent I'm governed by the need to space them so the escutcheons don't clash.

Further constricted by the el cheapo door construction that only gives a 360mm length of anything solid to fit the lock set. I guess though that's ample for whatever height they need to go.

You are not even constrained by building regs as it is an old house.

 

I would fit them to match the rest in the house.

1000 from floor. I just measure 980 from head to spindle height. 

Usually drop the privacy bolts atleast 3" below this. It's furniture dependant to some extent. Hold your handle and privacy latch and decide what split you want.

...but yeh 1000mm from bottom is pretty standard

I don't get this...is it 54 or 60mm backset???

2 1/2" latch 45 mm backset

3" latch 56 mm backset

So @ProDave reckons his handle to privacy lock centres are 55mm as dictated by the lockset. As my handle and privacy catch are separate it's up to me. He's got proper doors whereas mine are cheap crap. Thinking I should space the two elements out more?  

 

 

Handle at 940mm, privacy at 825 gives me 115mm centres

Winding up aside, it does seem like quite a lot of oneoff work to save about £50-60 on an oak veneer door over the cheaper version.

 

But I guess that would also tie you in to a design. My approach might be to make bathroom doors subtly different to the others.

Especially when SWMBO here will happily spend that on takeaways per week

Bout £75 for doors like that -Geneva, Cottage Oak or whatever, perhaps plus VAT, from Todd or TP or wherever? Plus doodah give-you-a-blinding-headache-if-you-do-not-ventilate oil?

 

They also seem to infest ebay. But it may be past that now.

 

I have the egg-crate-in-primer ones upstairs 'cos he ran out of getting-his-money-back, and they still aren't painted. If I paint them they may never get replaced.

ALL different. Trying as I remodel each room to try and standardise things like this along with raising/lowering socket & switch heights. Not helped by 4, was 5 different floor heights throughout.

I'd use a 24mm flat bit rather than 25mm next time:

 

 

The Screwfix handle came with a couple of through fixings that I fitted top and bottom and cleared the magnetic latch.

 

The other two fixings to the L & R are just nasty little wood screws into the paper mache that is this cheapo door.

 

For the, again Screwfix, privacy latch though there's no through bolts just 4 naff wood screws either side.

I'll let my chippy mate come down and take the pi$$ before painting, he might take it upon himself to tweak the jams and stops etc.

Ta. They are v.slightly off, laterally to one another. With hindsight etc!

 

Drilling with the flat wood bit for the top one and there was a 30mm st/st pin fixing the architrave on in the way. I had to use the 25mm Morse holesaw then carry on with the flat bit.

I'm going to highjack this a little. I couldn't find any regs in NI governing handle heights etc for new builds. The wife wants these doors which will only look right with the handles higher up.
