Hi all after a previous question I thought it best to carry out a flow test on our new water main

so i couldn’t think of any more professional way to carry this out apart from get a big bucket and see how long it took to fill it up

so I filled a 1000ltr ibc tank up from our main pipe in……………………minutes

would anybody have any educated guesses on how long it should take to fill up with the pipe going flat out.

Cheers russ.

Not sure of your supply pipe.  We have a sprinkler system at mains pressure and achieved over 100l / min at the inlet valve, so <10 mins for your tank.  A couple of months ago before the pipework was properly secured and boxed in one of the kid's friends opened the front door and the handle hit part of the valveset and caused a fitting to come apart.  It took about 2 minutes to shut off, by which time the ground floor of the house had about 5-10 mm of water throughout.

So to put you all out of your misery as your probably on the edge of your seats waiting for the result

i filled a 1000 litre tank in 16 minutes

so looking at all your guesses that seems very good

maybe one less thing to worry about.

I'd say that we have about 200m between the mains stopcock and where the supply enters the property. It comes in via a lane, then under a neighbouring property then through a field.
