My other half has still not settled on a kitchen

I'm tempted to go to Howdens or similar

 and add quartz worktops

Though most of the cost with the German kitchen we are looking at have been appliances and worktops

Around 12k

i would like to hear from those who have used Howdens or Wickes

Or anyone else

Seems harsh to burn members at the stake to warm your home just because they have used a couple of suppliers. O.o

If you wait until iirc October Howdens will be having their sale.

That usually includes eg granite worktops.

My only Howdens warning is to know what you want including spares, as the range changes with some rapidity.

DIY Kitchens have a sale on til 10th May now and quality is top notch vs Howdens and price is similar.

Worth the day trip - free coffee and cake too...

Howdens is bread and butter. Can be made to look nice but there is better about for not bucket loads of cash.

Magnet trade will sell you anything that's in the retail showroom at a whopping saving off list ( even though their list price is of course for folk with more money than sense :/ ).

My mother has a Magnet kitchen. It wasn’t worth the cash in my view. It certainly hasn’t aged well.

Magnet seem to be one of those companies which nearly always have 40% off sales, would certainly wait for one of those, and get comparisons to negotiate with them further.

Some years ago they switched their marketing strategy to "33% off" between one catalogue and the next.

Simultaneously all the prices in the catalogue went up by a quarter...

Source your granite independently too, there are some great independent suppliers around.

Bought my granite from an independent specialist and there was a better choice and it was less expensive than the kitchen supplier. The kitchen supplier would also only supply it if we had their guys to fit the whole kitchen and my hubby did all of that so we didn’t need them.

We had thought about doing that

All the kitchen suppliers around here use the same granite quarts place About two miles from were we live

We went for one a bit further away as we wanted quite a large kitchen island and the more local one couldn't seem to supply that size in 1 piece, plus they were a bit more expensive and had less options to choose from. Both places were still cheaper than the kitchen places. Mine is actually quartz rather than granite. It took 4 blokes to lift the island though!

Exactly. Cut out the middle man ;)

WE are looking to source quartz worktops seperately as the island is too big, any recomendations for good suppliers in the midlands area
