Alexmash Posted Saturday at 09:00 Posted Saturday at 09:00 Hi all, I am looking for recommendations for an online staircase construction company. Would love to hear if anyone has worked with one and how it went. My next question (and be nice, I am new to this) Can you get staircases made entirely of hardwood ply? I like ply both for aesthetic reasons but also as a cost alternative to solid wood. Many thanks, Alex
Oz07 Posted Saturday at 09:09 Posted Saturday at 09:09 I've used pear stairs quite a few years ago. They were good then but it was a while ago. As for ply a joiners workshop will make you stairs out of it if you want. I'd be interested to see the finished result it could be really nice if you had the right kind of ply with decent layers.
ProDave Posted Saturday at 09:24 Posted Saturday at 09:24 I got mine from stairbox, but I don't recall ply being an option.
Bonner Posted Saturday at 10:14 Posted Saturday at 10:14 Got mine from TK stairs in oak with MDF treads (carpet). They didn’t offer ply as standard, give them a call but you may be paying more than oak for something non standard.
Oz07 Posted Saturday at 10:29 Posted Saturday at 10:29 As i say some interesting things you could do but you'd need a bespoke joiners place. Which you could find online. But it won't be one of the big names listed above
Mr Punter Posted Saturday at 11:05 Posted Saturday at 11:05 There is a good reason that stair nosings are rounded. Those look lethal. 35 minutes ago, Oz07 said: As i say some interesting things you could do but you'd need a bespoke joiners place. Which you could find online. FuerteStu Posted Saturday at 12:03 Posted Saturday at 12:03 I built mine from ply myself. And routed the nosing. Filled and sanded out looks and feels like solid wood but is silent. Was quoted a silly price for it, so did it myself and I'm glad I did. 6
Big Jimbo Posted Saturday at 12:28 Posted Saturday at 12:28 Nice job @FuerteStu Only my opinion, but i wish you had curved that second step. However, fab job, pat on the back.
FuerteStu Posted Saturday at 13:55 Posted Saturday at 13:55 Thanks, I did template having the 2nd step similar to the first but it just didn't look right from the sides. Felt better with it being set back and square. 1
