cwr Posted Thursday at 15:57 Posted Thursday at 15:57 Hi folks With a floor slab for a garage / outbuilding to be poured next week I'm looking at bull floats. There appear to be different sizes available, 1200 x 300, 1200 x 200, 900 x 200, etc. Any advice on a good size to use on a 10m x 5m floor slab, or is it as much personal preference? Thanks
saveasteading Posted Thursday at 16:20 Posted Thursday at 16:20 I've never tried one, but often observed. Professionals will tend to have the biggest as there are fewer passes and lips. But these were handled by very strong guys. My hunch is to use the small size for control. There was always a lot of shovelling and shaping pre bull float. This was usually a pump mix concrete which is easiest to move around. What is your plan? As I must have said 20 times before... do not add water. Thinking more, isn't a tamp finish more appropriate? In which case the tool of choice is a straight piece of 4x2.
FuerteStu Posted Thursday at 17:03 Posted Thursday at 17:03 Smaller sizes can leave bigger lips, as the weight of the pole has a smaller surface to distribute on. Keep the twist gentle to adjust the angle for the pull and you shouldn't create suction dents or bubbles. They are surprisingly quick to get to grips with. Most the issue is trying not to bash the handle on things with the draw back. That leaves a dent.
nod Posted Friday at 06:57 Posted Friday at 06:57 The smaller ones are hand floats Hire a 1200 and a swivel pole
SteamyTea Posted Friday at 07:56 Posted Friday at 07:56 We cast a bit of concrete couple of days ago. This is just a test piece. Do these bull floats get a really good finish on the surface?
