BotusBuild Posted Sunday at 09:58 Posted Sunday at 09:58 We're looking for reasonably priced versions of this style of balustrade (clear, not frosted). It will be fitted to the glulam beam in the following pic Anyone know of anyone, preferably in the South West, but willing to source elsewhere if delivery is reasonable.
Thorfun Posted Sunday at 11:44 Posted Sunday at 11:44 We used these guys https://www.wpshandrails.com who were very good. 1

MPH243 Posted Sunday at 19:57 Posted Sunday at 19:57 I think it is these https://www.fhbrundle.co.uk/products/1806455M__Glass_Connector_-_O/D_50mm_x_20mm_With_M10_Threads_-_Grade_316_Mirror you want. I would try Cornwall glass for making the glass panels as I think are quite local to you. You can template the hole positions before you get them made.
LnP Posted Sunday at 20:10 Posted Sunday at 20:10 I bought glass as well as hardware from F.H. Brundle for a balustrade. Their glass was a good price.
Tetrarch Posted Monday at 09:51 Posted Monday at 09:51 I can't recommend FH Brundle highly enough. From order to delivery their people are absolutely top-notch, the prices are extremely keen and they keep you very well informed I wanted the standouts but didn't have enough vertical space on the return to make it work as you need (IIRC) 100mm below the low standout in the glass. Getting it exactly straight was a process but using their inserts and four post-it notes (a new construction unit) made it perfectly vertical Regards Tet 1

Only problem is have with that is having to remove the ceiling the other side of the glulam beam to put the M10 nut and a washer into 🙂 Now looking for M10 tube inserts of a suitable length ((50mm?) for the glulam beam. Things masively depend on the glulam beam construction and what's behind it but it looks like you have two options: Either some HD through bolts like these: https://www.fixingswarehouse.co.uk/products/toggler-snaptoggle-heavy-duty-toggle-bolts-bm10-25pk Or some M10/12 screws straight into the glulam - are there any load recommendations Regards Tet
BotusBuild Posted yesterday at 08:15 Author Posted yesterday at 08:15 (edited) FYI - the glulam beam is wood, of course, 300 x 150 mm, 6m long. On the now hidden side are some web joist every 400mm. And various wires, vent ducting and insulation. Murphy will have placed a joist in the way of at ones set of screws, nuts etc 😁 Edited yesterday at 08:29 by BotusBuild

Conor Posted yesterday at 18:18 Posted yesterday at 18:18 We got ours from Lithuania. Half the price of the UK or Ireland. Jonas something. I can look it up.

MPH243 Posted yesterday at 19:44 Posted yesterday at 19:44 I just messaged a mate who had the glass balustrades to Gulam like you want. He used these https://www.tcfixings.co.uk/category/wood-to-metal-dowels/945 but could not remember the size. You would then need the glass clamps. 1

For a standoff in a glulam (is there a better screw substrate?) you could use a regular coach screws - the biggest that you can safely insert Regards Tet

MPH243 Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I would not fancy holding up the glass while winding in the coach screw. The others are already in the gulams and just need to fit the glass, clamp and nut with less chance of slipping. Unless the clamp bit is bolted to the gulams before the glass is fitted but I am not sure on that bit?
Tetrarch Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago With the right kind of standoffs you secure the standoffs to the beam and then fit the glass to the standoffs in an entirely separate process. I found this on youtube to give you an idea: Just to note I have NOT installed these, but just came across this when doing my reseaach Regards Tet
MPH243 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago @Tetrarch that's what I tried to find but did not do a good job. 🤣 I got worried that the back was held on by a little grub screw until they showed the assembly with the thread. A coach screw with that would be fairly easy.
