Fess up or just crack on (water main)

I somehow managed to dig the trench for our water connection in slightly the wrong place and put it bang centre of the new proposed access.  As a result I want to move it < 2 metres, but as the trench was inspected and signed off, I didn't really want to incur further costs, when the new connection point makes absolutely no difference as it's a straight lane and they have charged me 2k for a road closure as it is.

Should I come clean or just dig a new trench and pretend nothing has changed?

Not sure why people ask questions where they want a specific answer.

You want to be told to get on with it, so get on with whatever you feel is right and you need to do.

Have you laid pipe and backfilled already?  To be fair, I'd just redig and keep schtum about it.  I really doubt they'd be too bothered.  Must remember that most jobs are just box ticking exercises and it's not personal to them.

The water is at least 750mm deep.  Why does the proposed access location make any difference?

I hope you are more careful with the foundations!

Moving it was more about having the meter to the side of the driveway as opposed to having a black water meter housing stuck in the sand coloured driveway.  Purely aesthetic reasons.

What have they inspected? Just a trench or pipework and stop tap etc?  I'd contact them and be up front you realised it's in the wrong place and dig another trench

I don't see why it matters. Why would you tell them? It's all box ticking anyway, and they'll probably lose the records...

Save the money for later in the build. You'll thank me.

I'd move it. Those plastic boxes don't last long if driven over. They may even refuse to install.

Yorkshire water installed my water meter in the middle of the access, their justification was that it won’t get overgrown and tyres never go down the centre … fair point.

How many joints will there be in the pipe that'd be under the road?

0 ?

Forget and carry on ...

Several?

Suck your teeth for a bit longer.....
