Remote DNO Kiosk, need cable to consumer unit indoors

The Kiosk that i am fitting out by the entrance to the plot is 20 metres from the house. I am not a sparky and am struggling to understand what cable is acceptable for a 100Amp (23KVA) supply from the kiosk to the consumer unit indoors. The meter will stay out in the Kiosk. Partly because the DNO price to move it later is eye watering.

Not only confused by what cable but whether i can install it in the 32mm Consuit sunk 450mm under the lawn.

 

Any details gratefully received as always

Call up a cable company like Cleveland cables, tell them the distance, tell them you have 100amp supply, they will give you a size of cable depending on the distance covered and the voltage drop. 
 

over 20m it won’t be anything special. 
Mine comes 120m from the meter to the consumer unit.

Expect it’s going to be 25mm2 or 35mm2 depending on the design current. 
 

32mm duct sounds tight. Is it solid wall/rigid with no even remotely tight bends? Not much chance if not imo. Why such a small duct!

Just done ours after some advice on here. 

Our electrician asked for 4 core and a separate earth.

35mm cable, even 4 core, is very heavy and stiff. Even a 65mm duct provides a lot of  resistance.

Ours is in the ground with sand bed and surround and only ducting for 1m into the kiosk and a hockeystick for the earth: it's what they expect to see.

In the photo the other duct is for UKPN. ours are too far to the side because of constraints by others, and it should have been longer out of the duct but hey-ho it should be OK.

 So i can lay the cable in the trench without any ducting then. My plan was always a 100mm sand bed, cable, 200mm back fill then the 'cable under' tape.

Yes. The concern is that it is buried there and  and not adjustable.

But I've seen cables stuck in ducts where there are curves or being too long a pull.

 

I'm nervous about 

1. Ukpn saying it's not right

2. Sparky ditto tho he's seen the pic

3. Ukpn putting their stuff on the right and sparky hasn't room or enough cable

4. Not enough free cable.    That was supervision....I had to leave site and hadn't explained 1m above finished slab. There is loads of cable at the other end.

Everyone else says it looks fine.

 

The hockeystick shows that the cable isn't deep at that point.  There was an obstruction. We should have cut the red end off and only shown the white.

Generally speaking, the DNO's expect the incoming cable to enter the kiosk at the bottom left and they put their supply head and fuse to the left then the meter above it.  That kiosk is large enough that the incoming cable can just make it's way to the left.

 

Consumer side outgoing cable usually on the right.

 

Assuming the DNO fit a 100A fuse the outgoing cable wants protecting by a lower rating fuse to give discrimination, I normally use an 80A switch fuse for that.

Fortunately after advice here and from the sparky, I got the bigger kiosk. It is called an S3.

Very glad I did, and even without the constraints we had, I now know how awkward that big cable is to handle.

We will put a polite note on the backboard asking for ukpn to use the left half. They will draw their new supply through the duct with the drawcord. It is a 15m duct by the site vendor's builder so I hope it's OK.

 

@Post and beam if you still have the choice, get the bigger kiosk option.

More buying advice available if you want.

Our service cable from the pole comes into the kiosk on the right through ducting onto a 38mm hockey stick. The cable from the kiosk to the house comes into the kiosk on the left. It’s 35mm SWA and also ducted. All on a sand bed as per DNO instructions with warning tape above. The kiosk is a larger 3 phase one rather than a single phase despite the single phase supplyThis was also on advice of the sparky who said the single phase boxes  were too tight.

Mine was made in Glasgow by Kingspan it says on the label.

Searching comes up with hand crafted and very expensive options so just search for kiosk S3.

Mine was advertised cheapest but had a £100 delivery added. They (waterwise) agreed to reduce that to £12 and I ordered it.

£584.40 total.

I looked again and the price had gone much higher. Seems to be that plus VAT now.

The local electric merchant wanted much more than that.

 

There are mentions from competitors of inferior qualities and it needing a double door. But I'm happy.
