MikeSharp01
We want to achieve a shadow gap under the window sills on our build. We are intending to drywall it all if we can, I have made a model of what we want but I am worried that I won't be able to feather this in. Is there a better way to form this in a drywall situation? Here are some pics of my model. Any ideas gratefully accepted.
Russdl
That looks like a lot of work for limited reward. I guess you’ll only see the shadow gap when you’re sat down? Also, when it’s finished will it not just look ‘unfinished’. I’ve never seen a shadow gap under a window board before (maybe because I wasn’t sat down?) Have you got example images? MikeSharp01
I think we saw it in a magazine I will ask.
SimonD
Is that a drywall specific shadow gap bead or a plastet skim one? Ive come across the Trim-tex stuff when considering finishes earlier in out build. Apparently made specifically for drywall. https://www.profilestore.co.uk/c/drywall-bead/trim-tex/shadow-gap-beads
Russell griffiths
As Simon said, that looks like the wrong bead. don’t confuse plater beads with dry wall beads. you will hate me but I have literally just cut up £4-500 worth of drywall beads as I was fed up with tripping over them. I didn’t think anybody would buy them so they are waiting to go in the bin. if you are thinking of jointing your house yourself i would seriously reconsider this. I was going to do mine but stopped and had it skimmed, I have previously jointed a whole house with another two guys with all the proper tools. stupidest idea I’ve had. MikeSharp01
This is the idea we saw 52 minutes ago, Russell griffiths said: if you are thinking of jointing your house yourself i would seriously reconsider this. yes we are - we did the garden room and it was not a chore really and it came out well enough - we expect to do better this time around. If we don't like it however we will get it skimmed. 1 hour ago, SimonD said: Is that a drywall specific shadow gap bead or a plastet skim one? Russdl
1 hour ago, MikeSharp01 said: This is the idea we saw That looks neat enough, but it looks like it differs from your plan in two respects: 1. The window board is no wider than the window reveal. 2. The window board doesn’t protrude beyond the window reveal. I think those two points would be the difference between ‘contemporary chick’ and “why didn’t they finish that bit off?”
JohnMo
Sounds a lot of work and something you will never look at a month after moving in. Nice place for spiders to live.
Oz07
Would look cool of window board flush with wall no overhang as the picture. Also can you not mitre that bead to return it up the 20mm or whatever it is. Won't finish well otherwise
Annker Posted Friday at 17:24 Share Posted Friday at 17:24 @MikeSharp01 A couple of years ago I was struggling to find a supplier for beads and then found these guys 30 mins from me, located in Kent and have a good range. https://www.ghsupplies.co.uk/plastering-and-drylining/metal-beads/qic-reveal-beads/
