Hi I would love your opinion on this.

This wall is about to topple over. I think it must be from the roots underneath.  I would ideally like to save it? Is this possible do you reckon, if so how and what could be done?
Thanks!

Also added a YouTube video to see what I mean....

Take it down and rebuild, yes you could underpin it but the cost and risk (to the people doing the work and surroundings if it fell over) make it not worth the effort.

You won't be able to re-use the bricks as the mortar joints looks strong and not a lime mix.

Demolition, new footings with rebar and clay boarding, engineering bricks, face bricks, sand,  cement, creasing tiles, labour, skip hire, plant hire. = £1000 / per metre

Unless there is a planning condition requiring a wall, a cheaper way is replace it with a fence.

Spot on Dave

My first thought was 5 years down the line you could be back to square one Trees and garden walls don’t get on It looks like the roots are already under the flags

A nice fence would be a great option at a fraction of the cost

How much do you reckon
1. cost to take down the wall
2. rebuilding the wall (guessing reusing the bricks?)

its a nice wall.

how to estimate:

how long to take down the wall and clean the bricks? 2 men (or other) for 5 days? =10 @£200

excavate new footing and pour concrete 10m (??) at £100. not enough . say £2k again

rebuild the wall. 2 bricklayers for a week?

mortar etc.

find matching bricks to replace damage ones

a temporary fence?

skip for the damaged bricks

£7k?? if you manage it yourself. £10k as a contract.

or a fence for £1k

HAHAHA some great ideas!! Thanks guys

Yeh il probably knock it down and put up a fence. Been watching how to do it online. Lets hope the wall stays up until after winter!!

Do you reckon its worth trying to salvage any of the bricks? Maybe make an outdoor bbq? I know you get different types of bricks.

You will find out when it either falls over or knock it  down, depends on the strength of the mortar.

Oops I forgot to put the demo cost alongside the new fence cost.

If you decide to skip the bricks, you get a better price if it is all clean hardcore.

Please take it down asap as it is dangerous and not economical to rescue. There are cases of children being killed by falling walls. I myself had to dodge a wall that had been severely damaged by ivy - I'd probably have survived but could easily have done serious injury.

You will not save that. Make sure your insurance is in order if you are going to leave it up a day longer. If that comes down on somebody they are toast.
