For gardening and building work, I use the red and black gloves from Screwfix they are thin but grippy last quite well. Painting and car stuff, black gecko nitrile gloves, they are embossed and quite grippy also. My wife uses them for washing up also.

I use Auro paints which are solvent-free and wash off with soap and water. No need for gloves. Graphenstone would be another good choice.

The only time I wear gloves in the garden is when I’m handling jaggy bastards like brambles, in which case these are excellent:

Thanks, I've been looking for a pair that are (mostly) thorn proof. I'm tearing up ivy out and brambles are mixed in with it, and garden centre standard gardening gloves are providing minimal protection.

I find I can mostly grab stuff at will without worrying about it. Backs of the hands and arms are still at risk, however!

Gardening: FBN49 leather gloves from eBay - surprisingly thorn proof. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2510209.m570.l1313&_nkw=FBN49&_sacat=0

General: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08QSHHT4Z?ref_=pe_27063361_487360311_302_E_DDE_dt_1

In both cases, much cheaper if you buy a bunch (the correct collective noun for gloves) at one time.

Proper protection but not cheap: Mechanix Gloves    https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=mechanix&i=industrial&crid=71M0EV3R27PS&sprefix=mechanix%2Cindustrial%2C77&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

For painting / glueing / oily machinery / keeping c..p off your hands - Screwfix 807HY nitrile

I find cheap rigger gloves enough for brambles, YMMV and the ones ~15 times the cost will be better.

Use HydraHyde gloves from Costco for gardening etc.

Can't find a link on their website, but same as these.

WELLS LAMONT HydraHyde Water Resistant Leather Work Gloves Size UK XL : Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

Around £22 for 3 pairs in the Costco Warehouse, sometimes come on offer.

They have outlasted most garden centre gloves.
