cwr Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 Despite achieving my desired u value with PIR between and under the rafters, thought I may as well fill the service void with something on our vaulted ceiling. Got some glass wool stuff, works out about £1.5/m2. I'll just stuff some in, or so I thought... Problem is its a real pita to stop it falling, not helped by the rolls being partially pre cut into narrow stripes. Gonna try staples tomorrow, need a faster way to secure it as there's a big enough area to do.
JohnMo Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 Wrong stuff, you need to use something more stiff. Acoustic insulation is the same R value but stiffer, but high density Rockwool (or others) would be better.
ProDave Posted March 18, 2022 Posted March 18, 2022 Frametherm 35 is stiff enough for that, but not sure it is available that thin. Look at wall batts that might be available that thin.
PeterW Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 We cut ends of rolls of vapour membrane into strips about 50mm wide on the chop saw and then use it stapled to the rafters. Seems to stay put. 2
Russell griffiths Posted March 19, 2022 Posted March 19, 2022 Buy a roll of packing banding, then staple it, more ridged than string.

cwr Posted May 18, 2022 Author Posted May 18, 2022 Thanks for the suggestions. After some experimenting i found that staples to the horizontal battens and a little tucking in under the vertical ones worked well enough. Two evenings work to do both sides, about 70m2.
