vivienz
Bugger! I had a couple of panes do that but during installation - decided to be a manufacturing fault. How long have these been in?

How long have these been in? It’s two years since I fitted them I’ve just rang the supplier and they will send us a new one out Very strange you can run your hand over it and wouldn’t notice the damage

MikeGrahamT21
I was reading an article on the BRE the other day about explosive centre panes, according to them its a good idea to have a toughened centre pane, no idea how much it adds to cost, it said they experience greater stresses than the panes in a double glazed unit. Ian
@nod That's obviously toughened glass. The most common cause of it failing is contamination by nickel sulphide inclusions in the glass. For commercial clients and in areas where safety is critical (eg overhead glass) we always recommend specifying that toughened glass be heat-soaked which gets rid of most of the glass which has nickel sulphide inclusions. https://technical.iqglassuk.com/technical-advice/nickel-sulphide-inclusion/ Typically (non heat-soaked) toughened glass which has nickel sulphide inclusions will experience increasing rates of failure the older it gets. We've had them failing after 10+ years.

Declan52
Most companies will give a long warranty for things like the seal going but not for glass cracking or shattering.
