  1. More than one seller. Not taken for a ride yet as i have not comitted to anything. The highest price was Nu-Heat. The comparison with a Gas boiler install changes slightly when referring to a new build of course. In our case it would be £6.5k just to get a mains gas supply onto the plot. So one way or another it will be ASHP, just need to finalise whether its via the Grant or not.
  2. I dont think that will help but thanks. I think there will be at least 4 down pipes from our gutters. I have now found a silt trap for £300 but FFS its a plastic bucket when all is said and done.
  3. Following on from my question about a soakaway, i have been looking at the required Silt trap. £400 ! , Why. Regardless, is there a British standard these have to be built to or is it just a case of making sensible provision to capture silt and other crap? If so i doubt i am the first or indeed only person to look at what i can do to install a suitable sump.
  4. That'll work, thanks. I did wonder if there is such a thing as a 'cut out' block already done so to speak.
  5. On a practical level. How is the delivery of service ducts up into the house done when using a block & beam construction? I imagine one of the blocks is cut in some way. Only because removing one completely has got to be incorrect. Thinking of electricity and Broadband specifically to the front of the house today but guess its the same for all the other Ducts.
  6. I may well have misunderstood something about this line? If your pump has to work 24/7 to keep you happy at -2, how does it work at -7
  7. 10kW sounds like a lot for a new build highly insulated single storey
  8. Baited breath and all that
  9. I wish i had seen this before i bought my Trail camera last week. Reolink even do a Camo version.
  10. I have just had a look at the Reolink site. That looks pretty good. How has the thing stood up to the weather ? Just seen more information: I notice that some models have a better IP weather rating than others.
  11. I dont suppose it makes a diference but what brand of TF? Regardless, try Heriditas Ltd Shefford House 12 High street Shefford Bedfordshire SG17 5DD heriditas@hotmail.com
  12. I bought a trail camera recently with a cellular capability. Partly as a security camera but initially just curious to know what wildlife is using our plot at night. But i wonder if i could utilise a standard 4g Sim to give me remote capability via a Pi. I am not Pi literate, the last thing i played with was Arduino a couple of years ago. I was trying to build a side real star tracker mount. Now my curiosity is awakened again.
  13. I tried this approach or something similar at least, i wanted a builder to take us from weathertight to completion. Initial interest along the lines of ' we are very keen to work more with Potton and can offer great prices' . They quoted £432k !! Another company quoted £299k to take us from weathertight to complete. Bear in mind we would be at frame erected, roof tiles on, windows and doors in. For a 200 sq metre build. Still finalising each trade on a one by one approach..
  14. Thanks guys. Its a good excuse to learn to use a mini digger so long as i am not wasting my time with regard to BC.
  15. I dont want to get ahead of the BC process and i have not started any works on site as yet. Not ready for house foundations. But i have a little time and access to a 1.5 done digger. So i was wondering, if i practice by digging my 4.5 x 3 metre required soakaway and it ends up acceptable can i fill it with the required plastic crates, backfill and call the job done? Yes i know it will need an ingress channel. Thanks as always keith
  16. Breaking the bond between the Hydrogen and Oxygen i can see. Leaving them to recombine to form the water that will fall as rain somewhere. But ionising either of the constituents will do a different thing will it not?
  17. This is ionising Radiation which is a whole different kettle of fish.
  18. Going through this very saga at the moment with East Herts. We have satisfied a couple of conditions already. 'Materials of construction' was easy. We sent photo's of the brick slip samples, roof tiles and Cedral cladding. For the windows we just told them they would be colour x, from supplier Y, in Alu clad timber. Actually in all cases we stated, 'or similar' which gives us a degree of wriggle room should we need/want it. Planning were good as gold over this condition. Still waiting for a response to the hard & soft landscaping condition, ( 3 weeks and counting). What we did was look at a successful submission from a house 100 metres away that was built in 2018. We took notice of the style and level of detail and figured that was clearly good enough. Our block plan submission for the full planning application contained most of what we decided to show so we basically re submitted that with a new name & date and added a wider driveway and low hedge. I added a note into the key that the driveway and patio would be SUDS compliant without specifying what exactly it would be. This top down view showed the house. drive, patio and a hedge at the front boundary. Rest is grass. Very light on detail to be honest but as i said the neighbours similar version got through. If you dont give much species detail then you dont have to provide specifics or maintenance plans. Grass everywhere mate! The biggest issue i have had with this so far has been getting the drawing submissions into the format and scale that they wanted. See a thread on here about this nonsense. .PDF and at 1:200 @ A1 in our case.
  19. The point i was trying to make is that a lot of the apparent increase in atmospheric water may not be down to the rise in Global temperature that is commonly given as the reason.
  20. Years ago i read that the gradual clearing of the atmosphere of particulates due to industrial process's and agriculture might be as effective at increasing evaporation as any rise in temperature. I have no academic credentials but this was the first thing i found when i googled the effect.... In a surprising finding, light can make water evaporate without heat | MIT News | Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  21. Then i would refer the honourable gentleman to the answer i gave some moments ago....
  22. If its not a lot then why consider it? Agree, either make it worth while or tell them to do one. Once you sign up there is no going back if the noise is too much.
  23. I believe there is a convention that access for services should be allowed to cross neighbours boundaries. For example, our semi has an old cable duct buried just under the rear across all the gardens in our close. This was installed when Redifusion supplied the TV service. It is only visible where it pops up into each house at the relevant point. Another example is when the SKY and other Sat TV companies ran Co-Ax cables along under the eves of rows of houses. Practically invisible of course. I would be mighty Pissed off if Openreach installed a box on my property. I would expect them to try to mitigate their intrusion which means if there was another option they should have chosen that method.
  24. What are the details. Do you share a building/house/flat?
