Which internal doors have to be fire doors? if any
Moonshine replied to Post and beam's topic in Doors & Door Frames
yeah my 35mm solid cores feel heavy enough. Also the £60 uplift is there also due to the fire door certification -

Good to hear, though while on the subject of fire make sure your upstairs windows have suitable fire escape sizes and heights of the bottom of the openable area -

This, though mine is three floors from the front and two floors from the back. I discussed with the BCO and architect about the fire strategy and the BCO was satisfied there was an acceptable escape route to the rear on the part with two stories. I made sure I got this in writing before ordering and installing the doors. This means I didn't have to have fire doors to the central stairs. Only fire door I needed was to the integral garage. The bco will likely ask for a FD30s which is a 30min fire door with smoke seals. -
Use something like Thermafleece, which is from sheep's wool

I have a boxed section of 110mm pipe externally which I have clad. I am planning to use a 18mm board to go over the top at the angle. However I am a bit unsure what to use to cover it. I don't want to use felt, and also I need to put the covering up the wall a bit and seal. I don't want to chase lead in as it's not vital it stays completely dry, but interested in what people think

Did you, your architect or, your planning consultant not submit a self build exception form prior to the start of works? If they didn't and you have started work, I don't think that you have much recourse and will need to pay the CIL bill. As for who's responsibility it was to submit the cil exception that could be an awkward conversation. I think ultimately its your responsibility but your architect/ planning consultant should have highlighted it to you The key thing is that form has to be submitted to the council and confirmed by the council before any works are commenced to claim the CIL exception. Building the soakaway has been deemed to commence work with the exception in place.

Anyone done their own building regs plans

unfortunately the file size of the PDF is massive, i am try to reduce the quality but its not playing ball. i will let you know how i get on. -
How about this course of action, get an air tester back to your house, suck the air out of the house and he and you will be able to feel where the air leakage paths are, and they will be able to help advise on remedial works. In a timber frame house i would have expected a lot better performance, but they will look at the comment fault areas. This may cost you £200-300 but it may save you a lot of work in areas its not needed.

I found Sketchup is good to a degree but found CAD better for my needs, it was good to be able to send the CAD files to the structural engineer etc. I will see if I can message you them -
In the sailing world, boat stands for Break Out Another Thousand. I haven't figured out the self build version yet but there has to be one. I'm coming to the end of my build now, and can say it's been some of the hardest years of my life but come to the realisation it's been a series if problem solving and finding workable solutions day after day. It's all it is problems will come at you and its your resourcefulness and bloody mindness which gets you through

i am with Melton, they have been good https://www.themelton.co.uk/mortgages/self-build-renovation-mortgages/ not sure how a mortgage company can gauge it also you could try a self build broker https://www.mayflowermortgage.co.uk/self-and-custom-build

I did my own, and to be honest thy were more like construction plans as i working out how to build the thing. I used CAD and the libreCAD software I got my architect to spend a couple of hours to check them over which was good. Building control only had minor comments. Happy to send you mine taking my personal info off them -
Soil and landscaping waste removal
Moonshine replied to machtucker's topic in Landscaping, Decking & Patios
that will probably fluff up by at least half, so you are looking about 10m3 of soil. A 8 yard skip will hold 6m3, so its probably either one 6 yard skip for all the bagged up waste and one 6 wheel muck away for all the earth, or just two 8 yard skips. I would price it on that of what is most cost effective in your areas. **** disclaimer i won't be held responsible for my estimates when you have filled everything and still have waste! ******* -

skip (general builders waste) for the bagged such, how much pure soil do you think that you are going to excavate, as depending on that is if you will need muckaway. -

I did this on Saturday, with my second fix nailer, took ages with double slats i cheated a bit and needed to get sign off from the end client (wife) so put it into CAD to get my head around it and work out how much materials i needed -

capping was very easy as it was rebated so it just sits on top its just the setting that determines how far the nail is driven into the wood, and set by the tip of the gun which is held in space by to serrated plates which are tighten together by an allen bolt on the top of the gun. On mine the serrations on the plates are worn so don't hold in place very well. the thickness of nail is dependant on its length, 2.8mm for about 50mm nails and 3.2mm for longer nails, e.g. 90mm -

I did a bit of close boarded fencing on the weekend (first time I have ever done fencing). Paslode was invaluable. Though with my the depth gauge kept slipping which was annoying and something I need to sort out. Probably saved myself £250 labour doing it myself, and it took about 6 hrs inc digging the holes and setting the posts -
MCS consultation on amendments to PD rules
Moonshine replied to JamesPa's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
tbf ASHP's and condensers are a lot noisier than gas flues. 25 dBA is very low and its dependant on how far your nearest receptor is in achieving that.
