  1. Going through boxes, found this. Have you any idea what it is?
  2. That is good. Purely because was thinking about working up to the https://instrotech.com/itc-level-1-thermography.html and thought might as well get one that can cope.
  3. Was thinking how handy one would be but also I could offer it as a local service, looking at courses. Saw these.... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bosch-Professional-Thermal-function-Temperature/dp/B08F2KTBPR/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 https://www.trotec24.co.uk/measuring-instruments/temperature/infrared-cameras/thermal-imaging-camera-ac060v.html
  4. Hi so as he detached the meter I asked him about the pole at the rear of the property which is against our wall which carries 3 phase. He said he could be back and would likely fit a 'night and day' in a box directly underneath at our side of the wall. That the builders would run the service from that. Frankly we will have 4 showers (5 adults in house) and intend to get an electric car as soon as practical/when the world settles down. Anyway this night and day, does that refer to tariffs?
  5. Thank you all so much. I think we are using a builder to do the shell including roof then getting trades in after. That said it could change with tendering. I heard today builders are only keeping price for 5 days. Can't blame them given the state of world affairs. Also I don't want one to go bust especially mid job. All of the above is extremely useful, will deffo use it for next meeting.
  6. So thinking about future planning re sockets eg. change of layout of rooms etc. Cat 6,7 or 8? Going to ask for that anti rat thing in the pipe (stops them coming into your loo). Would be grateful for any general thoughts /tips or even warnings?
  7. Hi, looking at getting the tiles/shingles off safely the cottage we are demolishing which so far involves wearing the full PPE but thinking about hiring a mii tower. (I have the bags & know to dampen them etc.) I took a few tiles off just to see how it would go and was surprised to find what looks like others underneath. Do you think this is just at the edges or on the whole roof? (Not inclined to trust the roof and the front is very sloped and a good distance from the road. )

  9. Granite sets off a Geiger counter.
  10. Hard to beat tarmac.
  11. Hiya, we have a pole we want to move for access. I was told it carried 3 phase to a disused biz premises across the road. It's not appearing on the network map even as decommissioned. So here is the legend. What I see on the map is green circles joined by green lines going up the street. So how can I tell if there is 3 phase present now or not? Concerned about cost. Also there is a thick tension wire coming from the pole which is on the street, into our garden. Wonder if that would be good for negotiating? 2 wires also come from it dissecting our garden right through to the street in front of our house. They are quite low - lower than the apex of the roof. They need moved too. We don't know if there are any wayleaves, have never received anything. External_Legend.pdf
  12. Have spent some time cutting down numerous trees prior to the digger coming. None of which are protected. There were 1 fir, 3 apple, 2 pear and 5 awful sycamore brambles enmasse and endless hedges. Half of the site had gone completely wild.Fruit trees were diseased. Definitely intend to replant apple and pear in different places, just want to get varieties right. https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2020/07/protected-trees/
  13. Lol it was cheap and I would get buttons for it. Yep it was more an anti hoarding measure. It has been really useful and saved me a few grand. I will probably keep it for a while to see if there is anything useful I can do with it. *you tubes juggling
  14. Hi, purchased a chainsaw to assist with clearing the site re vegetation. So when the build starts (builders will come in)would it be useful for anything else that I could do? Otherwise will flog it. Trying not to hoard but keen to save dosh.
  15. file:///C:/Users/pc/Downloads/new-build-guide.pdf Who are this Alpha crowd?
  16. Hoping not to have to borrow for our build (maybe the credit union will get a touch on the finish) but just in case what warranty?
  17. Yes we are seeing the effects of Covid, Brexit and inflation on supply and of course prices. That said, there must be some good news. We are at the start of our journey and I would love to hear some positive things. If you can think of any, please share. I can start with finding this site, it's so handy and informative.
  18. Just been looking through some of the clearance offerings in Homebase. It might interest someone here...https://www.homebase.co.uk/clearance.list?search=clearance
  19. Thank you. At the moment dealing with the ivy and overgrown hedge. So if we chip off the render, cover it with mesh and render it - which type of render? Lime?
  20. Hello, wondering what to do with the front retaining wall without rebuilding it $$$. I like stone walls, there is some peeking through the finish that was put on possibly in the 60's. Or should we just patch it?
  21. Sounds like if you get the fire doors you will be ok? I just did a search and they seem available, is there a specific type/size you are after?
  22. Jeez that reads like double dutch to me.
  23. Thanks, agree need to get it right. They are new build. It makes sense for economies of scale to do the development as one.
