What is typical temperature rating of a LED bulb?
readiescards replied to readiescards's topic in Lighting
Will the LED get damaged at 50 degrees if it is NOT switched on - i.e. we might only use the internal chimney lights if the stove is not lit -

Static shock from vacuuming log fire ash - why?
readiescards replied to readiescards's topic in Stoves, Fires & Fireplaces
I do hold the stove as a way of grounding me, but it still sparks across from my arm to the stove body - probably because the stove is enameled. The Acr Oakdale has a very small ash pan so I can ether: 1. spend time forcing the ash from the fireplace into the ash pan, with-drawing the over full ash pan which dumps some ash into the base of the fire and then very carefully carry it through the house leaving a trail of dust (or tip it into a large bucket creating a dust cloud) or 2. simply hoover the fireplace and then the ash pan When the Dyson packs up I'll get a metal based vacuum cleaner something like: https://www.espares.co.uk/product/es1674002 (The blowing feature looks handy - for helping me pull some chord through a long underground duct too) -
I gave up in the end of going off-grid mainly because the Tesla Powerwall2 would have been ideal but failed to hit its delivery deadlines for the UK off-grid certification - £26k spent on a long bit of copper instead :-(

Static shock from vacuuming log fire ash - why?
readiescards replied to readiescards's topic in Stoves, Fires & Fireplaces
It nicely heats a 5 by 15 m kitchen, dining, living room space in a brick and block house with 2.5 air tightness. After a 4 or 5 hours we start to really back it off as room temp gets to 23.5 degrees which is getting too warm really. In a full air tight house things might be different -

Ours is a ACR Oakdale with direct air feed http://www.stovesonline.co.uk/wood_burning_stoves/ACR-Oakdale.html Does seem to get through wood fast -
Following on from: I'm trying to locate a LED E27 bulb that is states it is ok to be used in 50 + degC - but have failed to Google up any temperature ratings for LED bulbs. Any one know what temperature a LED bulb can run in - or will they have very short lifes without reasonable cooling? Thanks Paul

Static shock from vacuuming log fire ash - why?
readiescards replied to readiescards's topic in Stoves, Fires & Fireplaces
Small 5 kW stove, with very small pan - used some days from 6am till 9pm = one and a bit small baskets of logs/day = ash pan brim full so easier to vacuum -
Static shock from vacuuming log fire ash - why?

Ooo, not thought of that, typically do it 12 hours after last log. Not too worried if a 20 year old gets burned as long as it does not take my house with it! Ta for warning -
In process of converting a farm barn to a holiday cottage. Had planned to install a single property sewage treatment plant (maybe a Clearfox - expensive but quiet and low maintenance and zero running costs). However longer term I might convert two more barns and longer term again the current old but working septic tanks might need replacing. Any suggestions for a suitable system (and rough costs if known) for a 5 property sewage treatment plant capable of handling 19 bedrooms (38 persons) - into a soak away or maybe water course. (Plenty of land all down hill from all the properties.)

Clever bods, I'm most curious why every day when I clear out the log burner stove with my old but trusty DC04 Dyson vacuum cleaner I get one or two static electric shocks - resting my arm on the log burner top (learnt not to use my hand to rest as too sensitive). Is ash flowing down a plastic tube an electrical generator? Curious rather than concerned

Hidden fire place lighting around log burner - whats ok?

Seeing temperatures of sub 50 degrees within the recess so no where near as high as I thought. Plan to install some simple ceramic bulb holders: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1x-Screw-Glazed-Ceramic-Bulb-Holder-ES-E27-Angled-Heat-Lamp-Socket-Wall-Mounting/361538602712?epid=1089131831&hash=item542d6146d8:g:O6YAAOSweW5VOTQO Connected using immersion cabling which I believe is rated for 85 degrees -
So far just been working through the various examples. Quite like the idea of a wemos AP so I can detect when I've arrived at home automatically

MCB remote control/programmable?
readiescards replied to readiescards's topic in Consumer Units, RCDs, MCBOs
After a 7 hour drive and therefore time to think i reckon a SSR in my utility attic where I can pickup the lighting circuit after the MCB is probably a better, cheaper and safer idea after all. So cheers all for suggestions and helping me rethink the solution. -
MCB remote control/programmable?
readiescards replied to readiescards's topic in Consumer Units, RCDs, MCBOs
The MCB with a signal option would be a simple pop in solution if it exists. I've used SSR and relays elsewhere but not as neat -
Do MCB circuit breakers exist that can be remote controlled? Say be a simple 5V signal feed Want to control my lighting circuit from a microcontroller (Wemos or Raspberry Pi most likely) and I can only find a MCB with a timer feature

Treatment plant without power. Biorock- clearfox etc

What was the servicing charge cost? -
Planning to add a EV charge point to our barn to holiday cottage conversion, opening Summer 2018. Has a EV charge point style won out yet or are there still multiple options? Or is it still best to just get the electrician to plumb in a big fat (unconnected) cable to a waterproof outside box and wait a bit longer?

MiTek have check all the calculations and the design and report 'Based on the loadings applied to the joists, which appear appropriate for a typical domestic dwelling, we have found that all of the joist designs conform to the relevant design codes.' So they seem happy, suggesting manufacture or installation issue - or 'appropriate for a typical domestic dwelling' is below my own expectations -
Would love to know what solution you came up with - if any

Treatment plant without power. Biorock- clearfox etc
readiescards replied to albert's topic in Waste & Sewerage
I have a Clearfox, 6 months in and all seems ok. Its great for being silent and zero power - we likewise have no light or sound pollution so this was important to me plus at the time I was considering being off grid However it was jolly expensive probably £5k by the time I paid for the unit, the massive hole needed, the tons of gravel needed around it, the long drain to the dyke but no electric costs and only rarely will it need desludging - I went for the 9 person unit - to allow future expansion of my property Remember the settlement tank is full of water/sludge but the Clearfox tank is effectively full of air so you need to think about drainage of any surface water that gets in the hole tanks are sitting in so that the tank full of air does not float up if the hole fills with water. I've yet to finish making it look pretty so it is still a few random pipes sticking out of the ground. -
