With it being split level, it's mostly 2.4 ceilings but up to 4.8 around the stairs and 3.6 in the hall - about 2m x 4m area. The bedroom is partially vaulted but only up to the 2.4 level

Renovation about to start... once we've got builders
Hecateh replied to Becky M's topic in Introduce Yourself
Hi Becky and Welcome. You'll get great advice on here - it's a bit quiet this afternoon though I'm in Yorkshire but my sister lives in Almondsbury so might pop in a say hallo next time I'm down.. -
Not from there - I've posted on my builder I get to vet those interested before anyone gets my contact details. Weirdly I am getting responses from Sheffield, Doncaster, Huddersfield and Chesterfield - Sheffield and Donny aren't too far if you are on my side. Not a single volunteer from Barnsley - perhaps BB has had me blacklisted Haha!

Got a quote at a good price. He only lives an hour away and has given me a price based on a 3 line description, although I did say it was about 400 sqm. "£2500". That's about £6.50 per sqm. Shall I snatch his hand off ... or give him a wide berth LOL

Nah - that wasn't confusing him - he was saying on new builds all ceilings have to have pink - suspect the last new build he worked on may have had 3 storeys - or may even have been flats. He said you may get away with it upstairs, it depends on your building inspector but you have to have them in the kitchen! I was pretty sure I would have read something about it on here had it been true. lol The insurance company classed it as 3 storey I think - but that's another rip off - it also gets classed as having a basement as the back of the lower ground is set about 600mm into the slope. ?

Getting prices for boarding and skimming. Eye watering prices but I should be getting used to that Guy that came Saturday said I had to have pink boards for all the ceilings to meet fire regs but I can't find reference to that anywhere - either in my architects notes or building regs. The only thing in the architects ontes is 30min resistance which AFAICS ordinary plaster board gives.

BB is on Checkatrade - says it all to me! I know he got some bad reviews removed, (I didn't know that when I employed him)

in my experience, which is admittedly limited, some jobbing plumbers, have a limited range of boilers that they have worked with and anything different, it's easier to just condemn it rather than admit they don't know it. Like with many trades - if you find a good one, hang on to them.

I suspect this is one guy who will regret trying to rip off this particular elder

In addition to the 4am none stop cooing they are now making me a dooger in my own front room. Every night, for the past week or so, the have been trying for more of the little buggers, whilst perched on the railing surrounding my deck - about 4 metres from where I sit. Unless they have found somewhere more conducive there won't be any more little chicks this year.

Are the stone trays non slip?
-
Apologies - that should be £40 more - It's £108 without the antislip and £149 with - I'm hoping to get the whole bathroom for under £400 lol http://www.britishbathroomcompany.co.uk/showers?cat=72&color=8&p=2 so I think it's a pretty good price - but even £40 needs justifying. I'm wondering how much difference it makes. I am will to pay it if it does make a difference.

I intended buying all my sanitaryware from one place (British Bathrooms/Bradford Bathrooms). However problem after problem means I have to go as cheap as possible whilst still getting value for money and something that looks good and does the job well. Unfortunately it's that typical dilemma of wanting - good quality, good price and good time. Definitely looking for substance more than style and the one place where my budget will be tempered with style (to a degree) is my own shower. I have my en-suite which will include a 900 x 1200 shower, toilet and basin - I did want wall hung but have given up on that idea. I know what I want now, more or less but am really stuck with the shower tray. There are so many out there with so many different prices. At British bathrooms the antislip finish is about £400 more than the ordinary one - is this something worth paying the extra for? Are the ordinary ones very slippery? Is there any way of treating an ordinary one to make it anti slip. Anyone purchased from Ebay and would recommend or otherwise any seller? I need to get the trays ordered as first fix plumbing is starting on Saturday

There is another supplier with equally good rating who has the size I wanted so I think I'll go with that. -

My water pressure at the current house is great. The screeders got soaked when they switched on for the wash out. They were very surprised at the pressure lol Is the new one likely to be the same? -

Looks good and there are a few suppliers. I wanted the 300 round and that seems to be out of stock at the moment. Has anyone got a 400mm shower head? Does it make a lot of difference? -
