  1. Lots of good tips above. WRT glazing make sure that your windows are standard sizes then they will be cheaper
  2. As per the title how much would it cost for a roof tiler to tile my garage roof including membrane etc. The tiles were already there. Not a great photo as I wasn't actually taking the photo to upload here but the photo shows about a third of the roof.
  3. Is that cheap, I hadn't priced up composite decking by £38 sqm sounds expensive to me (maybe just because I have no money left for landscaping)
  4. Looking good @Hecateh
  5. They are big 'darlings' but their aim is still a bit dodgy? There was a pack with a slight broken corner on one plank so I got that pack for £10 to keep as spares.
  6. I went ahead and bought it. It was £25 sqm but is being discontinued. They had enough packs (6) in my local store. It has a 25 year guarentee so happy with my £11.39 sqm bargain
  7. yes it is @peterw
  8. Just resurrecting this thread to get your opinions on LVT. I can see online that Karndean is about £20 sqm inc VAT. I only need about 9 sqm in total but factor in underlay and delivery etc it would be good to get something cheaper. I have seen this at Wickes which is £11.39 sqm on clearance (not sure what it was before) https://www.wickes.co.uk/Wickes-Cetona-Oak-Luxury-Vinyl-Flooring-Tiles---1-756m2-Pack/p/153407 Can anyone beat that for price/quality? I am looking for oak plank effect

    Hi

Well done for getting your discount. I am learning that if you don't ask you don't get.
  10. I have found out that my builder has been AWOL as he is involved in a build for Grand Designs?
  11. Really helpful advice @JSHarris I will pass on to the fitter.
  12. The floor company said that a damp proof layer could be applied on top of the screed if necessary but I don't really want to do that due to the extra time and cost. Anyone scraped the top layer of before? Is it a simple job for a newbie and and industrial sander?
  13. Quick fire question for you guru's, what is the best adhesive to use for Multipanel. It is being stuck to plastered walls.
  14. I think the Stair Box ones come ready assembled so I will try and book a joiner for a day
  15. Does the scraping need a special machine or is it done by hand? As I am struggling with my builder he might not do it.
  16. Okays I so will go and get accurate measurements. Another quick question do I need a joiner to fit the stairs and how long would it take?
  17. Thanks so much Ian. I will discuss this with the builder, looks like this should have been done ages ago
  18. yes it is a straight run, we were going to have it sat on the bare floor rather than the finished floor
  19. Not exactly sure what you mean by stairwell but the wall next to the stairs is plastered yes.
  20. I have got a quote from Stairbox for my staircase/landing balustrade. However before I order I wanted my builder to check that I had the correct measurements. Time and again I have sent him the detailed quote and asked him to check with no response. The last correspondence I had was just that the total rise was 2525. Am I worrying too much about this? Can I go ahead and order and if it is a few mm out can the fitter easily adjust. The staircase is mainly mdf with oak strings, hand rail base rail with glass inserts. Apparently the glass inserts get sent later after the staircase has been fitted.
  21. The screed on the ground floor over the UFH is liquid screed (i.e. Calcium Sulphate). We have been waiting weeks for it to dry so that the wooden floor can be laid (needs a moisture level of 3.5-4%). In desperation the builder is rushing to get the UFH on to dry it out. However both the bamboo supplier and a potential floor layer have said that the top layer needs to be sanded/scraped off to get a true moisture reading. Is this true? And if it is why isn’t my builder suggesting/doing this? Am I missing something?
  22. DIY Kitchens willaccept returns but you need to pay for any return delivery costs as I have found out.
  23. Thanks for the support @Hecateh I am feeling more positive about managing the remainder of the build. The tiler that is coming is on a day rate of £180 which is what was quoted earlier. Just getting quotes independently for all of the other work and take it from there.
  24. So nobody needs to approve that a building is okay to live in? I realise that until we have BC approval we cannot submit the VAT claim or change our mortgage to a standard one. But are there any other restrictions? I have ready that you can buy building and contents insurance, is that correct?
  25. The builder had told the tiler that the floor was to be tiled even though I had said a few times that we wanted LVT ( even telling him which one from Howdens so he could order it?). I have told him that the floor will be put in last.
