  1. In the past I've fitted Octava units. Very good quality and generally work (but HDMI can be a nightmare!). I can recommend (TMF The Media Factory), no connection just a happy customer https://tmfsolutions.co.uk/. Joe is often found on the AV Forums as mentioned above. Having seen the size of your house you'll almost certainly need to distro over CAT6 if you don't wan't grief. However, I'm NOT installing a Matrix in the new house, its become cost prohibitive: CCTV: No real need for HDMI, consider IP based camera's instead. Price dropping all the time. Blu Ray: Becoming obsolete and as you've said you'll have to go to the AV cabinet to change the disk anyway. Media Box: Most SMART TV's are fully equipped with software onboard. If not the likes of Chrome/Fire TV etc are all available on low cost dongles. Sky: Possibly the last "maybe" in terms of distribution but Sky Q is very viable now (Although I conceded the subscription is annoying). You'll easily spend £2-3k on a solution that actually works and you could equip all of the above and pay for a few years Sky Q subs for that money without the grief of HDMI which as a standard is a PIA! Technology really has moved on and I personally think HDMI distro (and whole house AV for that matter) is pretty much defunct. That's a big statement from me, a self confessed "geek" when it comes to the world of audio and AV distro in the last three houses I've done.
  2. Not done yet. Just placed the loo there to work out spacing
  3. A productive day. All the cladding finshed and the internal studwork sorted. The Belfast sink came out of a skip I think my floating platform for the sink is a little over engineered but it is blooomin heavy! The chooooks have also been enjoying the sun and watching me work!
  4. Dont worry. I'll wiggle it all in. I have a hammer
  5. I assume the newspaper is to soak up the leaking poo?
  6. Thats fab. Thanks for doing that.
  7. Agreed. I think what @Onoff wants to know is; would such an "S" bend act as a "poo trap"?
  8. Am I reading this correctly that you've put the soil pipes for the first floor into the insulated stud?
  9. Only an over run time (10 minutes) if my memory serves me correctly.
  10. No it wasn't the pro range. Just the top end of the basic range (4 interlinkable zones). It was a touch control (i.e. just a print on the glass) but in a wheel arrangement. Here's an image that shows the control I mean:
  11. Thanks guys!
  12. Just wanted a quick bit of collective advice? Here's a picture of the soil pipe coming out into the new outside toilet. It's 20cm into the room (due to the rear wall of the garage being thicker than the simple stud frame of the outside loo). The close coupled WC (already purchased) is going against the wall which is OSB clad. So I can either stud out a false wall to bring the WC forward (which isn't a problem, I've got room) or some how I've got to move the pipe back. Some form of "S" bend in 110 pipe doesn't feel like a good idea and I don't normally like those flexi connectors but this is feeling like a situation where that's the only option? Any other thoughts?
  13. One of the kitchen companies has the top end Bora (4 linkable zones with automatic fan extract rates) on demo at the Homebuildig and Renovation Show at the NEC. The Bora rep is also on the stand, I have to say I was impressed by its extraction ability. They have a "show only" offer discounting it to £3,200 (from £3,700). I very nearly bought one but stopped due to one tiny point....... The controls for the zones and extractor were incredibly fiddly. A sort of touch wheel type arrangement which was unresponsive and just plane fiddly. My better half would hate it!
  14. There is nothing wrong with the Cramer kits but like any DIY product are only as good as the person applying the product. The viabilty of any repair by a cosmetic repair company (and there are plenty to choose from not just the one mentioned by bitpipe) should be weighed up against the original/replacement purchase cost of the item when not fitted. If it had been fitted already then you would have to add in the cost, hassle and disruption of removing and refitting but the OP still has the luxury of making a choice over repair or replace before fitting.
  15. I hope it's less windy where you are than here tonight otherwise you might need to go and collect your foundations from the next village
  16. I hadn't appreciated those installers collected data Thanks for the heads up. Like you we have no mobile signal so that's that option gone from the list.
  17. Well I was doing well today until the hail/sleet/snow storm at lunchtime. Guess I'll have to finish the cladding another day
  18. Thanks guys. Lots of reading to do.
  19. We are serious considering an electric car for the better half. Her driving range is circa 4 miles and tops an impressive 30-40 miles a week so it seems like a no brainer. The Renault Zoe is currently top of the list as it's in the "super mini" category she wants (and she thinks the Nissan Leaf is bug ugly ) So my mind is wandering to towards home charging points. Renault seem to recommend these guys: https://chargemasterplc.com/for-home Does anyone have any experience of this or others? I'd much prefer my local sparky to install something rather than one of these mass market companies that will no doubt tack a cable to the wall after drilling an oversized hole through the wall TIA
  20. Jeldwen "Stormsure" double glazed timber window. Like all the Jeldwen windows in the outbuildings they were procured over several years from eBay. Possibly one of the few benefits of planning delays Contractors could consider smoking but only if they fancy their gonads being removed by my wife with a rusty spoon who has a major issue with smoking Trust me the screaming will be louder than even the most powerful of smoke alarm sirens
  21. Crikey I spend the best part of 6 hours in a meeting and look at the state of this thread You lot cant be left unsupervised.
  22. Yep its the rain water gully for the log store roof. Which of course has never got as far as having a drainpipe anywhere near it! but its only been there circa 3-4 years so lets not rush eh!
  23. Thought I'd start my "outside toilet" thread after the previous thread involving getting the first fix plumbing outside. Basically take one disused log store lean-too on the side of the garage and add the lack of desire to hire a portaloo for the build and the bog project was born! Ive actually only used 2m of the 6.5m length so might have to imagineer other uses for the store as it's currently filling up with crap! P.S. The chickens love a bit of DIY, especially where sawdust is created.
  24. Thanks that sounds perfect for us and would mean I could do away with the planned radial circuit in case we found we needed some electric radiators for heat upstairs.
