It depends how often you use the space I'd say. Efficiency when pushing the unit hard will drop but if the space is unused for a long time this will eventually offset and save more. I leave mine on 21/7 (cosy tariff) as I prefer the things in the house you're in contact with - seats etc to be at the right temperature, not just the air after a quick warm up blast.

No.

It needs a heat loss calc but as you said assume insulated I don't see a 3.5kW minisplit struggling to heat the space at all. If you have a partitioned room you'd probably want a multisplit for ideal comfort though, I haven't seen a self-install R290 multisplit yet. Intermittent use of a separate space is the perfect use case for A2A but costs can build if you need planning and installation etc. Most efficient running costs though.

I believe he's talking about the all in one units which have two big air ducts through the wall, rather than minisplits which have a ~65mm hole and the noisy stuff outside.

R290 units don't require FGAS as the GWP is so low. A professional install would have doubled the cost of mine.

I think for DIY sticking to the pump/manifold for a vacuum test and using the provided mechanical connection is enough, unless you actually have mechanical damage to a pipe causing the leak?

So ~£30 r290 and a ~£10 valve? Plus the pump/manifold that I should have bought in the first place, should there be any issues. Probably cheaper than an appliances direct quote to fix? Would add six months to the payback period maybe based on what I've seen from the unit.

This is worrying, I assumed a recharge would be reasonably priced should anything go wrong. Any more air con contractors you could try? Maybe @HughF could advise on whether it can be DIYed with reasonably priced kit? Did you find the source of the leak? Assuming no damaged pipes do you reckon it's the mechanical connection? I fudged the required torque based on a the feel of an old torque wrench but didn't have the adaptor to actually use it to make the connection. I was surprised how tight it was, it felt as tight as I could reasonably go without destroying the connection on the smaller pipe. Fingers crossed no issues with my unit, it's started dutifully offsetting gas usage for the heating season.

The smart meter and IHD kWh figures are correct so you can relax about the gas usage. It would be a bit of a national scandal if they weren't. British gas still have your account set as an imperial meter so all of your usage/costs displayed on their dashboard are 2.83 times higher than they should be. They are the ones in the wrong, and very badly so if these figures make it through to your bill.

Yep, that's your issue then, conversion factor is 2.83 which lines up with the figures you posted.

This rules out the smart meter tariff being the cause then, though it does seem to be stuck on pre-october rates which is not uncommon. This instead looks to be an imperial/metric mismatch. What are the units displayed on your actual smart meter (not the IHD) as afaik they are all metric. Which means British gas replaced your imperial meter with a metric smart meter but didn't adjust your billing (or optimistically just the online display). Politely give them hell.

My bet would be British gas are using the same values as the smart meter but the smart meter tariff is out of date therefore showing a lower actual cost. Can you check the tariff or compare kWh instead?

You can move your export to outgoing fixed at 15p/kWh. Not quite symmetric to the cosy import but I just fully charge for simplicity.

Outgoing Fixed Export now working as expected. I forgot it's fixed for 12 months so does insure next summer against export price drops, not that I'm expecting prices to drop much.

Ah much bigger than it looked, you just need a secondary glazing frame smaller than that then.
