  1. Thanks markc....there's no pump. Should I also turn the basin taps on aswell as the shower, to dump the water? I was thinking about fitting isolation valves while I'm at it but never tried this befor and the plumber used plastic pipping, any tips on this??
  2. I now have to adjust the exposed shower valve as I can see daylight through the hot and cold pipe inlets! Plumber didn't put isolation valves so how do I turn off water as I have a megaflo tank? Tank is immediately below new shower. I know where the stop cock is but will that isolate the hot too?
  3. I know, it does look like a bodge job! I just rather have the rad centered than worry about hol.es in the flooring. I'll patch them somehow and get caps for the pipes. Thanks for your input, much appreciated...Dee
  4. I did wonder about that flow reg thing but I honestly can't remember....is there away of checking? What do you mean by 'cap?
  5. No, pipework wasn't there and I had to get to work so I stupidly made an assumption that he would center it. I know better now to spell out my expectations! Anyway I've changed it after much careful jiggery poker.

  7. Nope, there is plenty of clearance with the door. I figured out I can actually move it myself. I will pull the flooring back, cut away the ply. Remove the rad, shift the pipes ect....
  8. Hi Finally got plumber in to 2nd fix bathroom, had to dash to work and leave him to it . When I checked his work the tall column rad was not centered on the wall....looks dreadful. Can't pull up floor to correct it so is there a workaround?
  9. Because I will need to fit a radiator. These pipes also need to be shortened and repositioned. Sorry, I thought I had answered Prodave? Thanks for the help.
  10. This is the system that I would need to drain. The plumbers I've seen drain it from a rad with a hose running outside. What do I shut off so the system drains and doesn't fill up?
  11. All the wastes are in for basin, shower and loo and connected into the poo pipe.. The poo pipe is there along with the bend that goes into the poo pipe. The water pipes are plastic with copper tails and are in place for the taps and exposed shower valve and cold feed for the loo. Draining the system is the first step but I need to plan this whole job meticulously if I'm going to tackle it atall.
  12. Hello all, Having been let down by 5 plumbers to do 2nd fix in a new bathroom that I've built I'm getting to the point where I'm going to have to do it myself. I don't want to but I despair of ever finding a reliable plumber befor hell freezes over. One step at a time. 1. I will have to drain the system first as pipes are live. It's a pressurised sealed system so...how do I do this and what are the risks of me getting it wrong?

    Gas leak?

UPDATE!! Ordered a new range cooker as I thought it was leaking the gas. Guys arrived to deliver and install but discovered leak when they went to the meter and spotted a 7mb drop. Anyhoo, they left, Cadent did a check and identified the leaking joint on the new boiler pipe work. Boiler installer arrived within the hour and found a joint was leaking elsewhere on the boiler, replaced it and now all ok. Should I seek compensation from boiler guy as it might explain my stupidly high gas bills? Would I be unreasonable to approach him ? Don't know what to do. They are a good company.

    Stud sensor

    Conor.....what's it called?
  15. Need a recommendation for timber stud sensor, also electrical wiring too, if combo possible Thanks
  16. markc....do you need training or a certificate/licence for the smaller spider lift? Can Jo public hire one? I've driven a digger before and put up tower scaff from a hire company.
  17. But don't they just work vertically? The don't bend to get to the back?
  18. Hi Have to get external masonry painted. I don't do heights as apexes and chimneys vv high, quotes for scaff are prohibitive ontop of actual labour costs! I need 3 separate towers/3 chimneys. Roof ladders too unstable and dangerous. Cherry picker can't get to back of chimneys. Any other options??
  19. Sorry for the radio silence but I've become obsessed with building a bathroom....I need a life! System is now running perfectly! The random rad in study that was limping along suddenly heated up weeks after I gave it up as dead....all good so I've now turned off 10/18 rads to save me from the poor house 😳

    Gas leak?

Ah, flue gases might be it. Although it's in the identical position to the original? The smell is stronger under the boiler. If I call the gas board would that be an emergency call out/ Charge?

    Gas leak?

Hi Had a new baxi boiler installed 3 months ago by local respected installer. Since then nearly everyone who has come to the house say they smell gas. Installer has Been back with a detector but can't find any obvious leak.....what should I do now?
  22. I've fitted a new framed, hinged shower door. It was a buggar to fit, heavy, the tolerance was way off but I made it work. Problem is it closes at the top but not at the base. I've double checked the tray is level, the frame is bob on with no twist....I'm baffled! Any ideas when I can do?
  23. Eh?
  24. I could use mechanics but mbf is only 9mm thick
  25. Can expanding foam be used to fill and stick MDF panels to uneven plastered walls? I resorted to zig zagging adhesive but not convinced! I tried it today but the foam just 'rolled' off....the panels are 600 x 1200. What's the best technique to stick them? Thanks!
