Turning SWMBO off -
Essential standby equipment, energy use and solutions
Pocster replied to ProDave's topic in General Alternative Energy Issues
Think of all the energy we / I waste by posting . I heard a rumour that @Onoff ‘s bathroom thread consumed over a gigawatt… -
Geniushub is good - I’ve used for many years in 3 properties. Certainly worth a look
-
Doesn’t “look” legal ! . Can’t imagine that’s allowed!!!
-
SWMBO will want one - so accept your destiny to install one
-
I know you potentially were planning to have a basement WC … If that happens and possibly showers , another WC ( no idea of your layout / plans ) then a sump for all of this might be better than a macerator “ per thing “ as it were to pump up into the internal drain pipework . If had to add the sump all for the sake of a basement WC - pita ….
-
Excuse me ! ” To add My rainwater Zoellar pumps are at 2 different heights in a pit I.e lower than my basement floor . “ nuff said bro 😎
-
I have something similar for my sewage pump . It can’t overflow of course unless both pumps fail and high water alert fails . Rainwater is of course the real issue - here I just have my 2 pumps at different heights in a hole in my concrete slab . A ‘ service agreement ‘ is BS 😁
-
I’m not sure there’s a lot to actually design here . Obviously speak to a sump seller - but at the end of the day it’s a couple of pumps in a container with an outlet to the drain . Making an insurance claim on failed pumps that you design / install yourself though could be an issue . Depends on your attitude ( confidence? ) on this issue .

You mean THE Kevin? You don't get paid ( I checked on that years ago ). Also I don't need some condescending , (expletive deleted) wit bitching at me about how I will fail and how bad it all is.
-
Swmbo narratives on HA.... " well it didn't work yesterday! " " if you die how will I fix the music player ?" " is that camera working?" " I hope you know what you are doing " " the rooms cold are you sure your heating system is working " etc. etc. etc. etc.
-
Trust me I would. Got a bloody house to build haven't I !!!
-
You’re the only one that visits . You just want a pir light so you don’t fall and break your neck . Oh yes ( as you can imagine ) (expletive deleted) the neighbors
-
Mines the same . 99% HA is not good enough . As we know 100% is impossible.
-
Perfect
-
You can keep the gag ; but I’ll certainly take the girl
-
Of course it does ! We need something SWMBO proof I.e it requires no action on her part
-
I think so . The issue then is getting the HA too see it .
-
I’m tempted to go down the route of adding an ASUS mesh hub outside ( in a plastic box ) . Fairly confident then that I can detect a device connected to my WiFi . Will somehow need to know when SWMBO has entered the property to turn the light off . As I have an ASUS mesh at least for now I can experiment. Feels a bit overkill though multiple Ssids ?
-
You are making the assumption SWMBO will take the head torch with her !! 🙄 Also that’s too easy a solution
-
Leave to dry throughly . I’ve seen phone / laptops dropped in toilets or covered in soup recover . Ultimately though some stuff will be written off 😞

Lane entrance to our house is pitch black at night . Whilst I could put a pir light up I’m not keen on helping the neighbors. Quite happy for them to fall on a dark winters evening and their corpse laying rotting in the bleakness . Anyway ( and more importantly ) SWMBO finds it too dark ! So I was thinking of a method to identify swmbo ( presumably based on her having her phone on her ) . Doesnt need to be accurate - but work reliably . Anyone tried any geo fence type technology ? . The lane is too far from my router ( so can’t use that as a recognised connection point ) . Some kind of basic sensor embedded in the wall in the lane ?? Ideas welcome ! ( I love doing things like this ! )

That’s what I said - 7 yrs ago 🤣
-
I have batteries . But if I didn’t would have ups
-
To add My rainwater Zoellar pumps are at 2 different heights in a pit I.e lower than my basement floor . I have a HA sensor on the higher one - that informs me if it comes on . As it’s higher it should *never* come on as the lower one should trigger first . So if it gets activated I know the primary pump has an issue . You need a proper approach to this - with multiple fail safes .
