Opinions on best way to drop a ceiling
Thorfun replied to Thorfun's topic in General Construction Issues
we're putting 100mm RWA45 between the joists. there will be an extra 100mm above the MF ceiling as well and it'll be double boarded and sealed with acoustic sealant around the perimeter etc. as it's the TV room i want to reduce the noise transfer to the bedroom above. i have a very good relationship with my Jewsons which has been built up over the last couple of years much to many on here's confusion as they all find Jewson stupidly expensive! i did start with an account at TP but have never used them as their prices are really high in comparison. -

Thanks for this as it just proves that my local Jewson continues to give me better prices than I can find online. Plus I can buy on credit. -
I can’t believe you were try to do angled cuts WITHOUT a mitre saw. 😂

Out of interest was ESP one of those other manufacturers? Had a quote from my BM for both Gyproc and ESP. I said I’d probably go for Gyproc as I figured in this instance you probably get what you pay for but he said he’d never had any complaints about the ESP stuff. -

I don’t have a gang, just me with the occasional help from the mrs. -
I seem to recall @nod saying ditra mat and glue is 6mm and tile adhesive is the same thickness as the tiles. So if you’re going for 9mm tiles I’d suggest 25mm for floor makeup. I’m sure there are many threads on this very topic if you search so you can double check what others say.

What screed are you putting on top and what depth?

only just seen this thread with this recent resurrection....has made me chuckle this morning, thank you. 🙂

Too expensive and too small capacity for me. But we all have different needs so could be good for someone else.

if you click on 'Order' is redirects you to their Kickstarter campaign (which hasn't actually reached it's funding goal yet with only 10 days left to go). delivery is estimated at Mar 2024 and as will all things Kickstarter there's no guarantee it'll ever get made and if it does whether that'll be on time or not is also another question.

take a read of the https://forum.buildhub.org.uk/forum/124-energy-storage/ sub-forum. loads of discussion already on this subject.

looks interesting but is expensive and pretty low capacity. looking at the Kickstarter campaign you'd be paying £1700 for 1.5kWh storage. my LuxPower setup was 6.4kWh storage for around £5k. my installation fees were paying my electrician to connect it up as I fitted the inverter and batteries to the wall myself. I guess it all depends on what you want or need and the size of your array and what you currently self-consume. but there are other expandable systems out there. probably worth doing a lot more research on the subject before making a decision.

Can this be automated?

It was a bit of a confusing response but I think we’ve read enough of @pocster’s posts to ‘know’ what he means. It’s just like learning a new language full of Pocsterisms.

what happens during the day if the house is using more than is being generated? will either of the batteries discharge to make up the difference? sounds like during the day both the batteries are set to charge only is why I'm asking.

that's for a structural engineer to determine. there are some SEs on this forum ( @Gus Potter is one that comes to mind) who might be able to assist but I think you need to take a breath and wait for the other SEs you've engaged to respond. you've done the right thing putting things on hold so take the time to get a second or third opinion and when you have more information make an informed decision.

Already made the decision to go with the faster flow rate before peer pressure kicked in!

I do my best thinking in the shower so I'll probably end up saving money by solving problems whilst showering. it's man maths, init.
-
We checked our water bill and we pay 0.17p/l, so approximately 29p for a 10 minute shower at 17l/min or 15p at 9l/min.

Opinions on best way to drop a ceiling

Ahh….right. In that case the battened walls are external so not relevant. So I can GL12 close to the external wall and use 600mm centres for them and should be rock solid? -

If I knew what you were talking about I might be able to! 😂 Yeah. It’s a bit of a worry but I can reduce the GL12 spacing drastically to assist with the load. -

Thorfun replied to Thorfun's topic in General Construction Issues
not sure yet! but it's moot as there's a 50mm gap between vertical battens at 450mm above FFL (you can see that in the photos) so even if the bottom batten does rest on the screen to higher of the two vertical battens still aren't resting on anything. i can screw the GL8 through the battens and all the way to the TF. if i use 180mm screws that's a 75mm bearing in the TF plus it's going through 25mm battens. pretty sure that should hold it all! -

battens are vertical (standard service cavity battens) and they're held in place by screwing through them and the PIR in to the TF beyond using 150mm screws.
