  1. It's been a while since Mr Onoff has had afternoon crumpet...
  2. I allowed the widely accepted, mm per year, screed drying time before I tiled. This just to be on the safe side.
  3. Blame Peter!
  4. Certainly makes a difference having somewhere decent to work...
  5. He'll likely be repeating himself in another 5 years!
  6. I used the egg crate type but the red Polypipe panels. They grip the 16mm pipe like sh!t to a blanket and didn't particularly lift at all. I did then lay A142 mesh over the whole lot which had a weighting effect of course. 100mm wet concrete over the top. No problems with de-coiling either, even with my homemade rig. Video: The jury's out on whether I'd use these panels again. There is a saving in concrete and it's super quick to lay the pipes. The resultant slab, though I'm sure strong enough, doesn't "ring" like a solid slab. I don't know, maybe having all those hollows in it is a good thing?
  7. Cheek, you've had captives in that basement for longer!
  8. Rolling forward to 2026...
  9. It's all compressions on the panels I have here.
  10. Sorry, that's what I meant. Thinking to invest in a decent big heat store. Options for heat sources etc.
  11. Got to sort that fence out on the right too...not mine but I'm going to see if they mind me putting in concrete posts and criss cross trellis to match mine.
  12. Think I'm sorted thanks.

    Gate Pillars

It's people keep turning up bearing gifts! 😉
  14. Copper would be maybe no good if you meant soldering to make watertight? Temperatures can get too high. More of an issue on the pipe joints I guess if a pressurised system where they can soften and burst.
  15. Stop faffing and get some brick acid. Hydrochloric is what you want. I just cleaned the bottom few courses of my pillar with the flints in. (Just wanted to see what it'd look like). The label is worn off of my 5L container but I did one wash with it dilute 1:1. Nasty stuff, I wore a rain jacket, rubber gloves and a full face Bionic visor. Use a scrubbing brush and dip in the dilute acid. Scrub from left to right. Hose off: Going to give a few days for the mortar to go off then acid wash from the top down. Should clean the brickwork and bring the black of the flints out.
  16. Made a seed tray today from scrap that should take the 50 little pots for my runners. Stainless screws / panel pins and white Gorilla Glue. Routed a couple of hand holds. 1 coat of yacht varnish so far.
  17. Holy thread resurrection! A big thanks to @Marvinwho visited me yesterday, kindly bringing replacement evacuated tubes to replace my damaged ones. Top man. Had a nice chat too. The plan is then x3 12 tube panels. I've also just scored this tank, controller and pump combo. Bought off Gumtree (for £50) but in Edinburgh! Someone's gone and gotten and is holding it for me. Got a mate visiting rellies up there in July who can bring it back down South. Just hope it works with these panels! Next step is some scaffold up and strip off some tiles. I'm going to renew the felt under where the panels are going. Then stainless steel brackets and some Unistrut to affix the panels to. I need to find a couple of these roof pipe entries cheap or make something similar:
  18. That's a sine of how clever he is...
  19. +1. Big fan here of the heavy duty detergent bottle!

    Gate Pillars

Got a ruddy birds nest in the other pillar! Means I'll have to wait until they've hatched / fledged to do the flints there.
  21. Soundbloc pb on the walls for a start. It's magic. 'kin heavy but magic! 😂
  22. You could... Lay your tools out flat on a thick board. Position where you think you'll want them. Use normal, countersunk wood screws to support the tools when the board is hung on the wall. Draw around each tool with a thick marker. Then paint the board but go around the tool outline. Instant, at a glance "that tool is missing".
  23. The bender saw some service then. Did those handwheels work?
