Yes, they are meant not to fire unless tight against the wood, you could try adjusting the depth a little.

Just started a self-build in Dorset. Exciting times!
joe90 replied to NailBiter's topic in Introduce Yourself
The inner skin needs a longer lintel (I used concrete lintels in the inner block work and brick arches in the outer. ) I also mounted the windows and doors on the back of the brickwork (check reveals) and the fact the inner “hole” was bigger meant it was easier to do this. I cut the block work at an angle and mounted plasterboard across the reveal. Being check reveals also means the windows are fully in the insulation zone. Yes everyone who visited remarked how good it looked. -
Lasted the test of time ?/Party Wall or not ?
joe90 replied to JJ999's topic in Landscaping, Decking & Patios
If you are satisfied the wall is safe then don’t bother. If he has had building work done close to the wall without a party wall agreement then he is in the wrong and you can blame him for any cracking/movement. -
Council wants me to move fence on my property
joe90 replied to craig johnson's topic in Landscaping, Decking & Patios
How tall can a fence be UK? If the fence abuts a highway used by vehicles (or the footpath of such a highway if there is one), it cannot exceed one metre in height from ground level. In all other situations, a fence cannot exceed two metres in height from ground level. Yes. -
Till something goes wrong, the same could be said for any insurance policy.

If using nails use ring shank.

T a hose into the output (before any control ) and use a clear pipe vertical next to the tank (in the shade) and the water level will be seen within this pipe 🤷♂️

PWA required?, Side neighbor, Unknown Depth of Foundation

IMO you can either ignore the letter or reply stating the PWA is not required. -
PWA required?, Side neighbor, Unknown Depth of Foundation

I rest my case -
You can but it must not be “self contained “ I.e. the occupants must use the main house for example “kitchen” or “bathroom” it can be used self contained during the build and will be council tax band A.

My drive gully used to fill with soil/muck as when I cleaned the car I pressure washed the wheel arches which living in a farming area was full of shit/mud.
-
Even a bottle gully collects silt, I had two on my drive that I emptied occasional. https://www.drainfast.co.uk/products/surface-water/land-drainage-road-gullies/gullies/600-x-300mm-yard-gully-110mm-outlet

But surely it can’t detect which houses are being heated and which are not which would give different results,

New opening steel beam and pitched roof snagging
joe90 replied to Alistair Shaw's topic in RSJs, Lintels & Steelwork
Or a BCO, did you get building regs approval from the council? -
Planning is a bit like the immigration problem, not enough planners to do things quickly and not enough gov staff to deal with those awaiting decisions on being able to stay. (Hotel costs for those waiting years on a decision). Both needs investment from the gov to get the staff numbers. Regarding immigration the money saved on hotels would help pay for the extra staff. Timescales for both need cutting.

HELP, failed perc test and on clay soil
joe90 replied to nowtie's topic in Rainwater, Guttering & SuDS
Some bedtime reading, note the 300mm hole to be BELOW THE INCOMING PIPE FROM THE BUILDING . The 300mm cube is purely to measure the drainage of the ground your digging in. 👍 https://www.copeland.gov.uk/sites/default/files/attachments/percolation_surface.pdf -
As long as they are solid and not loose they are ok. IMO
-
Yes that could work. No, plenty of bricks left to the right to support what’s above it. 👍 behind the front bricks/lintel you may need to corbel the bricks to support what’s above them.
-
Well you could use a strong boy to support the bricks above the old lintel but only a triangle of bricks would fall in the worst case if you didn’t support it. It looks like cement render under the plaster which might well hold the bricks in place till you get the new lintel in. I have done similar in the past without support but it’s a gamble. (I am not risk averse).
-
So are you putting in a new lintel.? Is the new opening where the cuts are.?

This is taking the P..... surely?

This is why strict rules for contractors should be in place, no ambiguity. -
Diverters are available to route power to immersions, cannot the same be done with this “negative” rate to make money, surely cheaper for them than turning power stations and wind farms off (if they still get paid) 🤷♂️
