  1. Welcome, I concur, a lovely house and wonderful windows, with the exponential rise in energy costs insulation must be a priority along with draught proofing (way before finishes etc ) looking forward to your questions, we have all been there so lots of knowledge available.
  2. My sister has a shared pipe through her garden and it started leaking poo etc and water co etc not interested so she contacted envoironmental health and they instructed said water company to attend or they would get a court order….they were there within an hour 🙄
  3. If you zoom in on Those photos the “membrane” appears to be about 50mm wide only, my membrane is continuous and a plastic piece under the joint???
  4. I am converted to hooks after my builder pointed out their advantages.
  5. Ah missed those drainage thingies. Why, what does it do?
  6. If it’s UPVC then they usually drain through that gap, the sealant should be on the inside.
  7. That probably feeds the boiler electrics, parhaps turn a ring cct off and see if it stops!
  8. If it runs off the combI then low power so probably wired off the ring main (but I would have put an isolator switch).
  9. Should be a filter inside where the flexible pipe fits the “valve”, worth checking?.
  10. You broke it 🤷‍♂️, hot water via the combI at other taps?
  11. I set mine to 48’. Very adequate.
  12. Similar to mine, oblong box with longest wall facing south, small windows to the North 👍
  13. Well I did no calcs whatsoever and many here will chide me for admitting it. I built with a fair bit of insulation, double glazing and attention to detail regarding air tightness, bought a 5Kw ASHP as a punt and it all works fine. I do have a woodstove as backup (and the looks on a cold winters day) and plug In heaters for bedrooms if the temp is dire (not needed yet). I don’t see why you have to size a heating system for the two coldest weeks of the year . Despite @ProDave using Jeremy’s heat calcs and it working ok, is was not fir Jeremy, he ended up needing more cooling than heating after it was finished, but we think that is down to the location (sun trap in deep valley) which don’t tend to figure in the calculations used.
  14. Well I have just finished my build in North Devon, not passive but not far off, a 5kW ASHP with UFH , heating required only a couple of months a year, plenty of hot water all year. (And I very rarely wear a jumper indoors). Orientation is key IMO I have a south facing conservatory and that heats the house in the shoulder months. Having MVHR means no trickle vents (draughts) and heat recovery. I was told my house would overheat with South facing and a conservatory but as yet I have not needed cooling (which the ASHP can do with a bit of work).
  15. The fitters should have put sealant on the inside edge of the bottom of the window to seal with the sill! If they are UPVC then the gap at the outside should not be filled as this lets condensation within the hollow frame escape!
  16. Some of my pipes go through internal load bearing walls rather than long loops through doorways leading to too many pipes in a small space (IMO) over sized holes lined with overflow pipe 👍 That’s what I did, helper to unroll the pipe into place and I followed with the staple gun.
  17. Only in the short term after a spike!
  18. Yes but where is electricity prices going? Down! I don’t think so, with Putins war and around 40% of our lecky generated by gas (currently) who knows how high the price will go. 🤔
  19. Re insulation, if you used rockwall , blown cellulose or poured insulation beads you can fill all voids.
  20. My thoughts are that there is very little air pressure so as long as you have done you’re best even if it leaks slightly it’s not like plumbing leaking and causing damage 🤷‍♂️
  21. What pipework have you used, if flexible stuff there should be no joins hidden to leak later?
  22. No your not, that’s crap, I used to fit kitchen and bathrooms and would never instal something that bad, plus I would not pay him till it’s rectified (ripped out and done again 😱).
  23. The ridged pipe is quite smooth inside actually, our MVHR has been in two years and I am yet to replace/clean the filters (and we have a dog and a woodburner.). The room vents have a grill built in and these do need a clean occasionally (dust/static) . Having a woodburner is not about payback (IMO) it’s about the caveman feel and instant heat on those long winter cold days. Good fir you, that’s what I did, I have had the design in my head fir many many years and luckily er indoors agreed.
  24. No, extract from damp warm places, bathrooms, kitchens, utilities, input to all other living spaces (according to design specs!).
