I stand corrected. No, just checked on the Bristol clean air zone website, my Merc is chargeable but the classic and motorbike are exempt (I did hear that motorbikes are exempt because the cameras face the front of a vehicle and motorbikes have no front numberplate š¤·āāļø.
-
I think you mean without charges, historic vehicles are exempt. (Just found out my classic is also exempt from the Bristol Clean air zone. š).
-
If you convert a classic to EV you then have to tax and MOT it as itās been significantly altered. I am sure I would be charged fir driving my classic in Bristol,s clean air zone as I saw no āget out clauseā when I read up about it. (Even my Merc is a year too old so I use my motorbike if I have to go through the zone).

Then perhaps that needs to change, we are not the only country that wants to not be dependant on Putins oil surely.
-
Not sure about that, I would love to see something practical from them, may give them a leg up PR wise. Why, reduces energy usage. Sounds like a ānanny stateā to me, plus the cost of implementation and organisation would be huge. A bit like saying you can only have a car if you drive more than X miles. What about the elderly and poorly that need more heat.
-
āJUST STOP OILā š¤·āāļø I donāt think this is possible, we are changing, and that speed is debatable but has to be realistic. The only thing I believe any government has got wrong is realistic grants for insulation, as we all here keep up the mantra of insulation, insulation, insulation when building I am sure consumption of āenergyā would be much lower if people were helped to do this to their homes.

I agree, until storage and network is upgraded abandoning gas and oil instantly is impossible. Yes they will get slated for it but I think itās pragmatic. If we can stop buying oil and gas from Putin that has to be a good thing. The comment that carbon capture is a smokescreen is also not true as Norway (I think) has been doing it since 1996. modern cars, petrol and diesel are far cleaner than an old XJS and modern wood burning stoves cleaner than old models so going back 50 years is just silly.

Joining flexible ducting
joe90 replied to richo106's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
I agree, if there is a fitting designed to join the ducts then why not use it?. Itās not like itās high pressure gas (even if it was, there are fittings fir joining those kind of pipes). Donāt waste money, use the joiner (I would). -
Itās only the end you have to protect that goes into the fitting, not the whole pipe š¤·āāļø.
-
Of course you are, quite normal, but we believe the balance is on your side. š
-
My take on that is that compression joints were designed for copper not plastic, I am sure they will work (and have ) but I would rather not take the risk.
-
I was warned about this and protect the end before pulling into place, try to keep the pipe in the plastic bag before using . I used gaffer tape and used wet wipes to remove the glue before using a fitting. (More good advise from our guru from Wales @Nickfromwales š

I question why a dropped kerb for a single car needs to take up two spaces, in a culdesac where my sister lives some have dropped kerbs but they only take up the length of one car and ā¦.. Yes, which many in her street do. So the OP had two spaces (one in the drive and one outside it) and the neighbours only loose one space. this argument about āparking outside my house is a ārightā gets my goat, there is NO right to park outside your own house, itās a privilege. One of my sisters neighbour once complained about me parking outside their house, in ātheirā space , I simply told them I have road tax and can park where I want (within the law) š¤£.
-
Actually I just thought about this, the complaint from neighbours are you are removing two parking places? Well if you park within your garden then park across your own drive (which a lot of houses do) you are not reducing the number of parking places but reducing your need to park on the street š¤·āāļø
-
No donāt, thatās what we are here for. Well I just read a few of the complaints (canāt be bothered to read them all) itās just nimbyism (not in my back yard), the highways have no problem and the council appear on your side. Any objections have to have merit, I.E. point out planning flaws, not just āI donāt like itā. Crack on, yes itās unnerving waiting fir a result (been there, done that over two years but won on appeal). Search your local planning website to see if anyone else has done similar and what arguments they used. So many people just donāt like others getting on and doing stuff š let us know how you get on.

No not yet, they do seem quite straight so far and want to get it built quickly to avoid ābendingā. I can always use long screws to hold any offending ālogsān down to the ones underneath. When I off loaded the roofing, felt membrane then felt shingles I was amazed how heavy they were so that should hold it all down well.
-
Found the numbered instructions (right at the bottom) I have started fixing the plastic battens to the concrete. Luckily being a retired ol fart I am not in a rush and will plod on, my mate is coming next week to help with upper parts, roof etc. these ālogsā are really quite heavy, not your usual 15mm or 19mm cladding. My only concern was the head height inside but I am adding 40mm with the plastic battens and the treated floor battens, 100mm x 50mm was supposed to go flat but I am putting them on edge so will gain nearly 100mm. Pics to follow.

Right, my timber garage kit has arrived š„³, first thing I notice the ground bearers are at the bottom of the pile so I have to move the lot (about a Ton) to get to them and make a start and although every piece is numbered the instructions donāt use the numbers š¤·āāļø.

Advice on how to proceed with planning officer
joe90 replied to Stevie77's topic in Planning Permission
I also had a planning officer from hell, fought us all the way, I went to appeal (easier to do than applying fir PP) and won hands down, the appeal officer even told the planner they were not abiding by their own policies. From what I know the planners can only be fined if they have broken the rules and decisions are classed as āopinionsā so very difficult to get re imbursed. I did my own appeal and found the Secretary of State office very helpfull. -
Start again and have a bonfire, the rest will be way past its useful life. I am considering one of these for next year, 44mm thick walls and dead easy to build. https://www.quick-garden.co.uk/summer-house-clockhouse-4m-x-3m-13x10-ft-44-mm.html

This subject has come up before, and if I remember correctly there is no such thing as a āqualified personā to sign off an MVHR installation, most here (me included) did our own. Again from memory a previous member asked their BCO what qualification was required to be āqualified ā and he failed to answer. Just crack on (with lots of help here) and present the BCO with a filled In form/spreadsheet with all the data.

From my reading of that quote the biggest chunk is contestable works, which means you can get your own contractors to quote for that bit (others will tell me if I am wrong!!).

Oh Oh again, right I think you need to renew the lead properly cut in with soakers and re render the stack with waterproofer.
