Welcome. If ever you are coming North on the M6, drop in. We are within sight of the Lake District. Anyone is always welcome. Ian

No Nonsense? Pha! Suck on this......
ToughButterCup replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Construction Issues
Well, I see you lot do not in fact have an answer to the question of what to do if you lose the little red widget at the end of the can...... So, I've had a brainwave. Yes indeed. But another gun and leave it permanently attached to the pressurised can of cleaning fluid. That way I always have the wherewithal to clean out my other dirty gun screw couplings! Simples! ( as NFW would say) -

@Nickfromwales says he only needs his nails done once every other month....? -
You'll know of my adventures with foam. ? And so you can imagine how careful I now am about using the stuff. Got more foam gun cleaner cans than cans of foam. Imagine then how I feel when the little spray attachment is as detachable as Trump's wig. It threatens to fall off as soon as you look at it. And when three fall off when on the top of the scaffolding to disappear into the maw of the mess that accumulates under the scaffolding. The little lanyard is about as thick as Donald Trump's skin : the spray attachment falls off at the slightest excuse. Who has solved this annoying little issue?

Working for yourself, procrastination isn't. Procrastination becomes a problem only when others are involved in (in this context) our builds. And since we cannot avoid that, then, perhaps, procrastination needs to be renamed : scheduling or rescheduling. Being daily, and boringly predictably dog-tired, working on my own, I am eying the safety aspect of procrastination. Maybe procrastination has a good side to it.
-
Sometimes it's essential. Especially when you are working on your own. I'm just too tired to do what I need to within the time ' ... allowed ...' Do we set ourselves unrealistic ' ... targets ... ' as self-builders ? Just imagine if we were entirely realistic and accurate in target setting : there'd be no need for procrastination

Well, I'm half Jock, half German. Directly related to Kier Hardie. Debbie's jealous as Hell. Can't apply for German citizenship because my mum was German, not my dad. Scheiße ist das. Reine Scheiße

site security - 3G wildlife cameras??
ToughButterCup replied to Tom's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
For the battery operated camera, any of the Brinno cameras will do. I'm fairly sure that a few of us use them. -
I'm inherently suspicious of treatments. It's a bit like a hairdresser asking me if I want any product on my hair. It's quite fun watching a hairdresser trying to explain what product is. Similarly, nobody down my woodyard knows what treatment is. Yet you can buy any amount of wood treatment online or from any of the sheds. Bet snake oil works better than anything.

Reading through all the guff about timber - my God there's loads about it - I am still not sure what the difference is between treated and untreated timber. Is it possible to ' ... treat ... ' timber yourself?

Damn, damn, damn: I have just realised
ToughButterCup replied to ToughButterCup's topic in General Construction Issues
Here's the problem ..... and I checked earlier: I have 7 points where the scaffolding is attached to the building. Once I have loosened (but not detached) those, I'll hit the problem with my farm jack. Don't use it often, but when you need one, you need one.... Aldi first, though.... (wonder what they have in the Big Boys Toys alley?) -

Thanks everyone. Weekly shopping first , then photographs..... -
.... that I have put the scaffolding up too close to the wall.... so that when I come to put the first row of roof tiles on the roof, they will hit the verticals. That's buggered up my Sunday off . Take it all down, move it six inches, put it all back up. Damn! Sleep tight! Annoyed of Lancaster

And, in the context of windows, what is the difference between active and passive surveillance ? Windows don't surveil anything.

and and SWMBO keeps telling me the diplomatic equivalent of '... Oh for god's sake don't be such a wimp. It's Tinternet. People dash off comments in a hurry and don't think too much about (xyz)... ' But then she's in a job where she regularly has to say very difficult things to people who have an over-inflated sense of entitlement. My counter to that is that BH is an online environment for people who are investing massive amounts of money, effort and nervous energy. In the research-lingo: it's a High Stakes forum. Anyway, up on the roof, the sea breeze has been a God-send so far today.
-
Yes, @Pete, I stopped adding to that list because of the unforeseen written reactions of some. One or two people simply can't resist telling you that they bought an XYZ widget cheaper than you did. All I was trying to do was give folk a taste of what the actual costs are (as opposed to guesstimates) I just got fed up of it in the end.

Right, I get the message. @jamiehamy gave me some Tescon Profil tape when we visited him in Scotland recently. So, I'll temporarily batten. And then repair with tape. Early in the morning here is often very calm. But by 9.30 or 10.30 in this type of weather, a sea breeze gets up. It's beautiful up on the roof this morning, lovely and cool on my back: but the sun's frying my face from the reflected heat.

Roofing Virgin just lost it.....
ToughButterCup replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
@jamiehamy gave me some Tescon Pro Clima Profil tape when we visited him recently. That would do - (to repair a small rip) wouldn't it? To be clear, nothing's been ripped yet. -

I've done my bit for North Lancashire companies. They're all at the back of three queue now - behind online suppliers. -
