I have no experience of this particular camera. What i can say is that it took me a while to understand the images produced (Bosch GTC ) . You might see a cool spot: OK. But is that spot cool enough to make any difference to the overall 'picture' ?. Put another way, is it worth making any effort to remediate the difference? That means looking at whether the camera you buy allows you to choose the temperature range - and to (re)set the graduation of temperatures shown in the image. Will the camera allow you to search for a wide range of temperature difference - or merely a narrow temperature difference? Yes, I submitted to the tempation of scanning the results of a fart - there is a marked temperature difference. Dog farts are the hottest overall. Hamsters fart continuously.

We're featuring on Grand Designs next week 🎥
ToughButterCup replied to thefoxesmaltings's topic in Property TV Programmes
Not only a self-builder: but also brave. Hats off well done. Got any goss' about Our Kev and 'is little proclivities - we'll keep it a secret? Honest PS I'll ask it first ------ How The Hell Did You Get Those Stairs signed off ? -
The one thing we are not is expert. We encourage everyone to do their own Due Diligence. It would seem from the images that the (lack of ) difference in height between the Inspection Chamber (IC) cover and FFL has a lot to do with the problem. It looks certain that that design is guaranteed to cause problems

You are in excellent company. The only member here with enough money is @Pocster Talk nicely to him and he'll put a HobNob in the post for you. That should save you a bit.

Wimmin. "There you are darlin' ... " says @peteypops with a big (this means Brownie Points) smile and flourish "Errr...." ( she hoists a storm warning - with a matching smile natch) "WhatAboutThe [.....] sweetheart ?" " But you didn't ask for one of those " Foot tapping starts ...... "Well I'd have thought that was obvious ...... "

Well done Sir! Top of the Class. Diplomat of The Year Award. I found that on our house build, everyone, but everyone tries really hard not to talk about anything that smells or could smell if things go wrong.

A reputable Estate Agent will answer that question. And if you ask three of them, and they all agree..... -
When the attic space exceeds 50 sqm of space
ToughButterCup replied to MariaD's topic in Building Regulations
I asked a similar question in relation to our house. The most sensible reply was (among a wide range of others) treat the area as if it exceeds the threshold anyway. Followed by " In a fire, would you like to be stuck up there just because you'd saved a few quid ?" We don't have to think too far back to what Value Engineering can do in relation to fires and survivability -
I never could remember the difference between malapropism and spoonerism. Mangle will have to do for me. Still @SteamyTea and @Pocster will doubtless soon pile in with their take(s) on the matter of how we can make a hash of poor newbie @Fulltopuk's innocence. For me, there are just too many permutations .... I mean just imagine how a proper Lancastrian could mangle the screen name

K Rend and other render options
ToughButterCup replied to Mr Blobby's topic in Plastering & Rendering
@nod has forgotten more about rendering than all of us put together will ever know. But that hasn't stopped me trying to find out about rendering because it's a really interesting thing to do (or in my case mess up). I still know close to SodAll, but I can research Tinternet This guy is really good at explaining the process -
Excellent. Interesting design. "... 20 years+ ..." An excellent lesson there for many. Persistence has its rewards.

Old Septic tank - possibly needs replacing
ToughButterCup replied to Kuro507's topic in Waste & Sewerage
At this remove, other than offer generalisations, we can't help. I'd plan on removing the tank and replacing it with a treatment plant. Either now or at some point in the future . DIY about £6k, otherwise £10k. Choose the system with the least moving parts. That type uses an air blower(s). -
Who’s responsible for a retaining wall.
ToughButterCup replied to recoveringbuilder's topic in General Structural Issues
I don't know the answer to the question. But here's what one of our most respected contributors had to say about retaining walls - he had to solve the same problem as yours..... From a very simplistic (and therefore possibly wrong) point of view - if anyone digs in such a way as to possibly compromise the safety of a property that already exists, then it is the responsibility of any builder to preserve what already exists. '...looks like ... isn't '...is...' until you obtain a qualified opinion. We (Buildhub contributors) are neither qualified, nor expert - nor local to you. Please ask for a properly qualified Structural Engineer's report. -
Here Be Dragons (potentially). I sincerely hope my warning is unnecessary. The subject of SoftAndSmellyStuff in conjunction with joint ownership or responsibility has always been tricky for us. And in this case the tank is not on your land. A lot needs to be unraveled here. And that may in part explain the lack of interest by the companies you have contacted. Their approach to you might be more positive if you were able to say to them....Put this particular tank in that particular place and connect up the piping.

In haste: Forget the past Find another suitable patch to bury your own treatment plant Read the General Binding Rules Follow them to the letter Identify somewhere safe to discharge the treated liquor (General Binding Rules) Buy a digester Bury it : foul drainage and power as well (SWA electric cable only) Connect it all up Test it AND ONLY THEN Disconnect the other Flushed with your own success, sit and smile.

Welcome to the Worriers Club. Just occasionally I manage to enjoy the process of worrying. But it is now normalised : and thus less of a worry. (? !) Its par for the course. Every day. But it keeps me sharp. It makes me think. It makes me research. A lot. It keeps me engaged. It keeps me a little bit uncomfortable. And - if you let it - discomfort teaches. Hence BuildHub. Hence shared hardship and shared privilege. Signed, Old and Disgraceful of Lancaster
