  1. or use mortar and stick stone to it ? like tiling only vertical If you were closer I would suggest some nice granite .LOL but maybe cotswold stone ?
  2. Iwould ask for that to be included in quotes you get from suppliers. eg price of blocks price of hire of bracing they will certainly have it or access to hiring it I take you have sent a plan to all the suppliers you are looking at ,cos you will need more than 1 type of block -they should be able to give you quote for the exact number of the different types of blocks you will need
  3. If I go ICF --lots of things s with my site which are to be decided yet then it will be ISOTEX -durisol only if they are significantly cheaper- the width of blocks vary quite alot -so you need to decide which side is going to be flat as you build-and the surface rinnsh is alot more open than ISOTEX Isuppose other big hting is that the woodcrete are pourous ,so the concrete drys out -sets quicker than poly especially if its a sloppy mix -so bottom firms up quicker and less hydraulic pressure to burst things if you really hammer on pouring quickly close second is poly system ISODOM sold in uk by econeckt they have already said bracing will be free loan ,I like the number of different block types they do and the size of them and thier locking lugs, downside is the concrete fill is 150mm and ISOTEX is 120mm -cost saving I do not have a site size problem so thickness of wall is not a problem and i quite like ther idea of doing all the elec .plumbing etc chased into the walls ,then straight on with the plaster suppose it depends how sure you are of spec of house beofre you start to see if PB and service viod is an advantage or just more expense I like the woodcrete cos no bracing required other than screwing some plywood on at corners and maybe a few other bits check ther ISOtex videos -they build all walls and pot them and concrete roof in one go--you could not do that with poly --so to me that says its inherrently more stable I,m sure all systems work -
  4. you have a wall bracing system -for when you pour? that is not an option it is a must with poly block systems and as for the dpc what @Conor says is one way --again look at your detailed plans for this detail It would not be my choice of how to do it all depends on type of floor -is it a slab or supended
  5. and what price for the bracing hire you will need with the poly system
  6. belt and braces --no need in uk --we don,t have earth quakes
  7. so maybe it will become an otter "holt" or beaver lodge . LOL
  8. maybe me but i read culvert as pipe, even ifnot under house its a perfect thing for occupation if its dry
  9. so you have basically made a "rat run" under your house from the stream ? If you are certain it will never flow water ,then I would be blocking it up ,unless you like the idea of vermin moving in under your house what size pipe? a nice badger set or a Fox den?
  10. that detail should be on your drawings you still need a dpc --so no that wil need to be filled before dpc for the icf blocks to sit on what type of floor ? post up your plans ?
  11. I would not ,but yes glentrool is a very bad spot --cos its full of forest plantings -- so bad there that the forestry commision closed their site there 10 years ago -fed up with giving refunds you just don,t camp near christmas trees I,ve seen me disturbing clouds of them in january when acting as a beater on a shoot which was made up of blocks of fir trees-they didn,t seem to bite at that time of year snow on the ground and midges -- If midges were a problem I would not have bought the site -been looking at it for 20 years
  12. inc or plus delivery to your site
  13. that ones for sale as is the quarry and the jetty B listed house not really that hard a project all services are pretty close very solid structure already -just needs interior + roof revamping and bringing up to modern spec -less work than alot of self builds and with 5 acres annd 2 other ruins you got lots of space to do other things when i get stopped waiting for planning etc on main house i will do some moore work on it -cleared all dnagerous trees around it already I did toy with the idea of doing that one first -selling and making some money --but my age means i have to be sensible --may not have two houses builds in me being on coast and or away from all the pine forestry and midges are not a problem my current house is on edge of newton stewart -no real midge problem there -was worried when I made a pond --but no still no midge problem far worse up north all over
  14. you not been following my thread then still plenty here - but within sensible distance of civilisation multiple attacks on clearing roads and site
  15. you obviously have not been to the s/w of scotland -climate very similar to cornwall but with plenty of scenery like the highlands and not alot of people, clean air how much better do you want a view than this taken in january and april -you don,t get many midges on the coast
  16. I get the feeling you are sorry you used durisol- It seems to be used the world over without the problems you had
  17. and if condsidering MVHR in future ,then again -zones pointless
  18. I did that some years ago and did not allow for the human factor -people not closing doors etc or wife wanting to open all the windows to get fresh air once that happens zones are pointless
  19. welcome to a new adventure how much of it are you doing yourself? that is first question and is it going to be a continuos job once started basically two different types poly block types and then woodcrete types poly block there will be at least 10 different systems ,all of which will require bracing woodcrete types there are 3 durisol , isotex velox after studying for well over a year I am leaning towards woodcrete type ,as I may need to stop at some point until i get more funds - need to sell other bits of site to complete -don,t want to sell my present house till this is done which is main reason I am not considering TF or SIPS brick and blocks too heavy for this old man to work with all types can give you what you want - I suppose you should start with a design and send it off to different suppliers to quote for supply of bits or fully built shell
  20. come to scotland ,have all you want and a lifestyle biz as well for a fraction of the cost .LOL
  21. I would be a millionaire if I got paid 10 k for every tree I,ve cut down in last few months 80tons of trunks have gone away on log trucks
  22. send a letter recorded delivery and start keeping copies of everything If it goes to court only things in writing will be considered as evidence
  23. different in scotland --you need BC permission to do anything virtually
  24. very common stipulation now with an ex commercial property farms often have had leaking red diesel tanks in past and other nasty chemicals maybe
  25. I would stay away from old petrol stations unless you have a ground survey done for pollution and tanks are removed or filled solid with concrete once you buy it and planning insist on ground test -you could be stuck with mega costs to remove any polluted soil and dump and then they can insist that on ground testing outside your boundary to see if the pollution has moved off site and that could be hundreds of thousands of pounds --so you must spend£10k on ground testing --EG bore holes
