  1. Haha I had to double check I hadn’t made a Freudian typo there!!
  2. I’ve just done my first batches of hedgerow gins and vodkas. Using sloes, hawthorn berries, blackberries and rose hips. That’s Christmas sorted! ?
  3. I’ve just order myself an endoscope to connect to my phone and then I’ll be up the ladder to have a peak. Not sure that I fancy going down the route of removing structure to get at it all.... I don’t like the idea of the cost either ? If it turns out to be some kind of mineral wool, I wonder if there is a diy way of removing it.
  4. Unfortunately not... no openings other than windows. Bugger, that’s was what I was afraid of but wasn’t sure if there was any possible fix.
  5. .... what’s in my wall cavity, as in, what insulation? I have a small 1980’s block built 2 story extension, with the upstairs room ceiling under eaves, which gets quite cold (both upstairs and downstairs). I was wondering what the easiest way is to find out what insulation (if any) has been used in the cavity. I’m thinking I could upgrade with full fill beads.
  6. Classic look, economical with environmentally friendly upcycling. ... but newspapers are getting scarce these days so better start collecting now if you’re planning on a vast glass gable too.
  7. Who uses curtains and blinds nowadays... except in bedrooms? ... unless you are in a built up area, but I’m guessing anyone who is adding this much glass has big views without many houses looking back.
  8. Dogs Cats Children Avoid all these and your home will remain spotless!
  9. Thanks... at least that’s means I won’t have to piss about putting one in. ?
  10. Thanks. ? I doubt I would be able to get it airtight enough to make it a sweat box, I’m sure there will plenty of ‘built-in’ ventilation around the door and windows. I was more concerned with the risk of water getting through the outer wood and on to the Celotex or trapped in the structure.
  11. Anyone got opinion on whether vapour barrier is needed or not?
  12. Also, take a look at all the current Garden Communities (Garden Villages) being designed at the moment. The larger open plan, open spaces are part of what attracts buyers.
  13. But it works... people love shiney sh!t
  14. This is true... I have been involved in a few site developments and the fence boundaries are quite often defined by the overall aesthetics of the development rather than optimised for a home owner or any other practical reasoning. .. the extra few metres of garden are unlikely to add as much value (to the developer) as an open community space. Can you imagine what it would be like if all estate properties had fences up to their boundaries... it would be like entering a maze.
  15. Put a small radiator in there?
  16. We always like pictures ?
  17. Holy smokes Batman, that’s cheap. I don’t think the rates I paid (£200 & £140) were anything special, probably about average for the area. But I would have happily paid a bit more if they were quick. I think my guys would have taken 5 days to do the same job.... there was always a fair amount of faffing and dithering from what I saw.
  18. Does that include materials?
  19. Ok, so before I order some insulation board, what are people opinions on vapour barrier? It seems to be mixed as to whether it’s worth it on a shed. I have 44mm framing so was going to have 30mm Celotex, allowing a 14mm Air gap between the insulation and the exterior boarding. Or possibly 40mm with virtually no air gap. Then, use some foil tape to bridge any areas not covered in Celotex (in effect creating a vapour barrier), then 6mm ply to finish. I think it would be a bit of a ball ache trying to put a vapour barrier in, and possibly over kill??
  20. Does that matter? The side extension can go as far forward as the building line (front of the house).
  21. Your quite right.. I was talking complete rubbish. No 3 is obviously achievable by PD. But why would no 2 need PP? Because the side extension projects beyond the rear of the property?
  22. No 3 would need formal PP for the side extension. Rear could be done under PD. Of course this is just my opinion... and could be complete tripe.
  23. I assume you are saying this because the side extension seems to be slightly larger than the previous footprint? Otherwise it would just be replacing existing to the side and only extending behind existing to the rear. So falls under PD?
