Might not have to ethically dispose of the next Siberian hamster visiting our bird table -
Doing a bit of decorating ( her indoors really) and removed the MVHR intake from the wet room vent. Two years of dust and other things

Morning, has anyone installed a WWHR system i have looked at different options but are put off by the cost and efficiency Cheapest non sap system was about £500 and was probably the best as it was a tank rather than a tube. In my simple mind the tube systems only work if you are drawing water at the same time as draining waste (ie a shower not bath) where as a tank has an element of storage Opinions and real world example please.

We have an 8 inch steel pipe that lines the top 20ft of the borehole. it sticks about 4 inch out of ground in a 3 ft chamber. The chamber was removed and re sealed and waterproofed. The pipe had a 18 extension welded on top and sealed with a lid. The rings were built up so they were out of the ground by a foot to prevent heavy rain overflowing into chamber. A neighbour had a plastic liner that had to be extended that was more difficult. We were warned that if we pollute the water table then we could be held liable for any remedial work and all costs etc

Bore holes should have a sealed cap on top with an air vent above the ground. We had to update ours due to council inspection

As some have stated it is often hard to get like for like quotes. Look out for the delivery costs as well as cills not being included and sealing tapes and foams not being included. Do you want a site visit to confirm measurements or order off plan. Will they come out at the air test stage to seal any leaks found when testing. My preferred supplier include all theses as standard which actually makes them very good value.

I just looked at my Rationel quote for 3g Auraplus aluclad in a "yuk" green colour,Tilt and turn system 60m2 came in at £357 per m2 that includes 3 large lift and slide patio doors and 3 doors including a double entrance door. On top of this was fitting at £75m2 and cills (no price given)

I found that they were a lot more expensive, but will try southernsheeting and the same with Jewsons as they hold my main self build account. Retail the difference between paint and timber finishes was something like £14 paint and £20 timber

Didn't know about Scotland but our price included fitting and was still cheaper than all the others. Some people question the quality but we went to factory and could see nothing wrong with them. Rational came close once we found a supplier that was reliable( Enlightened Windows) but once you add delivery, fitting and Cills they were outside our budget for passive Aluclad 3G

Have you looked at jeldwen. We had them in the last house and although typical builders merchant windows they do come in 3g. They were our fall back option. Currently looking at munster who are about 20% less than Rational after their "ok we will match it discount" Munster will only deal with house builders not self builders.

People putting stuff on the verge
dogman replied to Construction Channel's topic in Housing Politics
We had a 3m strip outside our last self build. We knew it was council land and it had all the services in it. We put posts in as cars would park on it and turn it into mud. Two weeks later a letter arrived from highways basically " move your posts or we will and charge you" We did -
Have you checked with building control. Ours has a problem with the up stand as he thinks vermin will eat into it and wants it rendered. I have to agree with the vermin issue its how we were going to finish it. Our current plan is mesh and render, then brick slips where it is visible.

Rules on CCTV and Public Highways
dogman replied to Construction Channel's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
"If your camera covers, even partially, any areas beyond the boundaries of your property, such as neighbouring gardens or the street, then it will no longer be exempt from the Data Protection Act (DPA) under the domestic purposes exemption. This does not mean that you are breaching the DPA but it does mean that you might need to take some steps to comply with it." the advise direct from the ICO -

Sorry @Steptoeread this https://ico.org.uk/for-the-public/cctv/ and this https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/domestic-cctv-using-cctv-systems-on-your-property/domestic-cctv-using-cctv-systems-on-your-property i spent the last 15 years working with the authorities that manage cctv and other surveillance systems what you describe has never happened in my experience. if you comply with the rules its ok in @Construction Channel example he can do one of 3 things ignore the requirement to register. and only do so if someone complains and plead ignorance move camera so it only covers his land or register and comply with code of practice. if all it took was someone saying they feel intimidated then we would have no cctv anywhere as the civil liberties brigade would be complaining about every camera going -
where are you ? I think you may be close

Two examples i am aware of. ( before the changes to register for DPA.) 1. person puts up camera covering a communal parking area as car had been damaged. Camera was a fixed camera and was aimed at their allocated parking spot but also caught a path and access to the road. Neighbour complained to police who looked at CCTV and told complainant that it was within the law and there was nothing they could do. Sting to this was that it was a housing association property who removed camera as it was a breach of their rules. 2. Person has camera in back garden that covers neighbours garden. There was an existing dispute between them. neighbour complained. Police checked and camera was a fixed camera and only covering their own garden so at that point it did not breach any law. However neighbour saw the cctv owner move camera after police had been and filmed it being moved. Police served a harassment notice on cctv owner advising them to take it down or it would be investigated as a case of harassment. Camera was moved. With police and CCTV they are very cautious as it is also useful in the investigation of crime and often is the only evidence of the offender available. That is why the DPA allows private cctv with conditions
