Hi all be grateful for some help on a worrying (to me) scenario that has developed on our mbc frame in the last few days. Lots of rain and the building is not watertight, the roof boards leak like a sieve even with a membrane. We are going as fast as we can with trusses to get it ready for single ply membrane finish. The mbc roof boarding is really wet in places and so are the joists underneath. The walls are wet but too a lesser degree. We have puddles all over the place inside with water collection in dips in the slab so its a very warm moist atmosphere due to window openings being covered in heavy duty polythene awaiting window arrival. Yesteday I notice what appears to be black mould spots on the roof boards and the joists. Can anyone tell me if this is an issue both for construction and health. I have a serious health issue and cannot tolerate any mould whatsoever, part of the reason for the build was to have a clean air healthy house and now I have seen the mould I am very worried and in something of a panic. Pics attached. All input gratefully received. Many thanks Liz

The first of my Internorm windows have finally arrived and are in. Sliders are another month off I'm told. All good and I am very happy with them - only one issue and that is the glass in the back door is clear and it should be satinato. This was all correctly specified ticked and signed off on order so who is responsible for the error I dont know. They say they will sort.......actually it doesnt look bad so if I can get chunk off the price may leave as it is. At this stage I am very happy I stretched to the Internorm they are lovely windows. Fingers crossed for the remainder of the ordef.

Sealer for power floated finished floor surface
lizzie replied to mvincentd's topic in Floor Structures
When I lived in East Africa we had polished concrete floors from necessity not style. For years I had one particular housekeeper who used to use a mixture of what appeared to be some sort of oil or resin mixed with what looked like beeswax, it was a bit like old fashioned liquid polish in consistency. This formed a durable stain proof, water proof layer on the concrete and it withstood the daily rigours well. Was mopped every day too. He used to recoat bits as and when. We didnt have access to commercial or artificial products then so had to use what we could make ourselves. I wish I had that recipe of his because it was a brilliant product, the best concrete floor finish I have seen. I could be a millionaire now if I had brought the knowledge home and gone into production with it. -

Thanks for that tip on the ever edge looks just what I am looking for to edge the resin bound. We have ended up getting powder coated metal ( aluminium I think but not sure)l pieces fabricated to form the skirt around our eps. They will go up under the larch clad and come down over the eps and membrane and then we will put gravel on top. They are being fabricated at the moment so not seen in situ yet. -
Been there did all that LOL Look forward to hearing from you on progress.

Most stressful part of the whole thing! Good luck.

That's brilliant!

I had a quote from EcoHaus but I heard such dreadful reports of their fitters I went to another place closer to me. All was great showroom manager great etc etc then 2 months later we hear he has been sacked and our windows have not even been ordered. The owner came to se us and said he would do everything he could to get them to us quickly but we have still been left with mbc frame with no windows. Im told the windows are here now and will be fitted on Monday, the sliders are at least a month away. So stressful, until they are all in I wont relax.

Oh please..... I am awake worrying about the wretched things half the night as it is! Another worry now added. Why are internorm so popular if there are so many problems or is it just the UK end of it that is rubbish?
-
Thank you so much for sharing this

info on retrofit welcome here too please
-
No idea on Internorm stays I didnt think ask and they were not offered. I'm just hoping windows turn up I can worry about stays when I hvae windows (retro fit option info welcome). I wanted inward opening, liked it when I had it in France.... fingers crossed German version is as good

We went for Internorm after looking at the Rationel, Ideal Combi etc. Internorm worked better for us. Cant comment on them in situ as they are overdue and currently our openings are covered in heavy duty polythene for weatherproofing. Late delivery not Internorm factory fault but a total mess up on the part of our local showroom. I wont rest easy until I actually get the windows in, paid a lot of money in deposit.......

Thank you all. I dont pretend to understand all the technical stuff and I certainly couldn't build one, wiring. a plug is a major for me. I think I will be changing my car next spring so not too far in the future but I am not sure which make or model yet which is why I thought this looked a good option as I could charge anything with right plug in cable. I also have friends with ev and was hoping to be able to let them charge when they visit. I have a friend who worked at Tesla on the design side now moved to a fruity competitor on the R&D for their offering which is still way down the line. He tells me all new homes and refurbs get universal EV charging points installed as a matter of course now.

i want to future proof as hope next car will be an ev so am thinking of getting one of these put on as part of my electrics install. any thoughts? http://www.rexelenergysolutions.co.uk/product/2500526428/Rolec-Mode-3-EV-WallPod-Charging-Station-With-32amp-Type-2-IEC62196-Socket

agree but not my descriptiin that is the way they are described in the blurb about the buildings. I think bad design too.
-
Thank you for the advice I will investigate. I think just that one area falls outside the 10mm tolerance

My hairdresser operates out of converted farm buildings and they are all eco. UFH run by GSH. She says GSH UFH is a nightmare, cant get heat when you need it and its not controllable enough and reaction times are slow. That is the only form of heating so they resort to the fan heaters. She has been there 3 years and they have tried all ways her husband is an electrician so not unused to controls etc. Is it bad UFH or bad GSH supplying who knows!

I dont think MBC are coming back have to leave that to project manager. We have one area around an internal stud wall which is really bad that is the deep one. Then we have some dips and peaks here and there. I am told those are within tolerance of 10mm. I dont know about self leveller and if is that is enough or if it will need something different tiler will have to tell me I guess. Not a happy bunny as you might imagine
