Trial pits prior to groundworks, how much £££
Canski replied to Post and beam's topic in Foundations
That seems a tad over the top. -
My ex used to go into a plant buying frenzy at this time of year. One of the many reasons why she is my ex. £300 - 500 at a time.
-
I just thought that it would save any disruption in the future if the cables were already installed and coiled up in a neat loop.
-
I’m also interested in installing at a later date if I stay in the new house. What cabling is required to prime the house ready for installation ?

I presume that they would accept an initial Topo survey as evidence of previous ground levels. 🤞

Not sure what you are looking for but fastbuild supplies are good for normal cavity ties.
-
Which tie from ancons range are you looking for ?

This gets better ....... Now I'm nearly ready to go once my birds have departed I thought I would get an updated service connection quote for the 2 houses on our site. I just spoke to the DNO and they say that they have had quotes back and one was £20 k for the 2 properties. Last year they quoted £4200 this is for 2 x 3 phase connections. How can they be this far apart. They said they are waiting for one more quote to come back but FFS that is extortion.

You can easily tell if the joints are full from the rear of the faced brickwork if it has been built prior to the blockwork. ( only possible with full fill or blown in insulation) This is (usually) the brickies preferred method. We go round the back and smear all joints full while the mortar is still wet. On some sites now they are asking for the rear of the wall to be tooled with a bucket handle. I think that is a bit over the top.

How would you determine wall orientation….
Canski replied to Jimbo123's topic in Bricklaying, Blockwork & Mortar
Could they not have linteled over the inspection cover ? It's not an ideal solution but if its only a few mm then it may be better than moving the IC -

Thats really not anything to brag about. Rip it up and start again. Schoolboy error. -

I would put a string line up 10 mm off the wall at the far end of the house above the shed in this case and pull it towards the front of the proposed wall and move it until it is 10 mm off the front of the house so it is parallel to the house and 10 mm off the face then I would plumb it down with a straight edge and spirit level and remember to mark it 10 mm back from the line. If the pipes etc. Foul the line then move it to 100 mm or any dimension you like off the face. As long as it is parallel the jobs a good un. -
Hammer and bolster for a couple of hours or a small sds breaker for an hour would get that down. I wouldn’t panic it’s not going anywhere.

In the end and on recommendation of a developer friend I opted for one of these with a 4 G sim. It seems to be working well at home. I’ll position it on site when I next visit. -
Ok thanks. One of the three parking spaces is counted as the garage so would I have a charger point set up inside the garage ? Then I could provide cabling to the pillars each side of the garage doors for future chargers ?
-
I had this from building control. What do I need to comply ? Does the cabling need to be connected to any sort of termination point ready for a charger to be added at a later date ?if so what do I need. ‘The requirement is one charging point for each unit, plus cabling to be provided per associated vehicle space within the boundary of the properties.’

I’ve seen horrific scenes on site with multiple workers cars / vans tyres punctured with steel in hardcore. Not a way to get a good build when the the workers are pissed off before they get there the next day.

What are the options to close a 200mm cavity?
Canski replied to CalvinHobbes's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
are you on the new regs ? I think I read something in there that the window has to overlap the outside of the inner skin by 30 mm. This would lead to a cill the size of a window board -
Im having my 200 tonnes of bricks crushed to 50 mm down but will be buying in 75 mm recycled material to place below it at £12 Tonne. This gives a better base for drives and paths but it can be a bit of an ankle breaker hence topping it up with crushed bricks.

I keep getting conflicting answers from different UFH companies about pipe centres. Some say 150 and some 200 mm centres. What is the science behind this ? It will be a 75 mm cemfloor slab on insulated beam and block with a u value of 0.12.
