Someone who submitted in November still hasn’t received their refund. I dare say Covid plus Easter will be their new excuse. They say that things are delayed because people are working from home. God forbid that after a full year they might be able to be properly productive like the majority of folk have managed after far less time.

vat refund Self Build with VAT questions

Yes it requires 10 posts. The OP is halfway there ?. For info the main VAT reclaim post is here when you hit 10 posts. There are other posts in that sub forum too that you may find useful. -

When your contractor’s insurance doesn’t pay out!

In fairness we don’t know what the other 2 CCJs were for but you always have to declare everything when you take out an insurance policy. It’s like people who take out travel insurance and don’t think to mention a health issue they’ve had in the past, meaning that when they have health problems on holiday they are not covered. -
It has to be a plug in hybrid I think. They take the car registration number when you apply but I’m not sure if they actually check the car. I would assume that they do. Mine is a PHEV so qualified even though I barely use the car these days as I work from hold full time at present.

EDF Go Electric tariff (for people with electric cars).
-
They are apparently not installing them in my area. I’ve been on the list for well over a year and I’ve been told that the wait will be long. I have no PV just a not working Solar thermal system so ToU would work for me well. I accept that it’s not for everyone however. I’m on a flat rate tariff at present @ 12p for heating and 12.5p for other use (I have 2 meters currently).
-
Well I can only blame my husband as he sized it! The only good thing is that I really only need to run it once a day so the Agile tariff would suit me very well, especially when the price goes negative ?.
-
I believe that I could save quite a lot on one of these tariffs as the majority of my energy use is overnight. I can easily avoid the peak period too. I just need Octopus or another supplier to start rolling out smart meters for 3 phase. It’s one reason why I haven’t gone down the ASHP route as this type of tariff better suits maximising usage during the cheapest tariff periods whereas an ASHP is better left to run throughout the day when it needs to I believe.

I do too but last we heard Zoot had a box brownie ?.
-
As @SteamyTea says just jot them down weekly if possible so that you have a full history of readings if needed. I’ve just switched to EDF. They gave me a reasonable rate for my set up although they’ve just increased the price by 0.5p as it happens.

Filters need much more regular changing than annual. My loft isn’t boarded and it’s right in the middle so difficult to get to.

Look forward to reading the tribunal report ?

They hold all the cards sadly unless you want to go to tribunal.

VAT evidence to HMRC

Also have a read here. The first few posts cover most of your queries so far. I loved @Bitpipe’s post but would just add at the end. Find another invoice you forgot about after you have sent the claim off and feel aggrieved about the £25 you didn’t claim back rather than celebrate the £25k that was paid out. Personally I didn’t scan the whole lot but I did copy the invoices that were worth the most money, not every tiny Screwfix purchase. Also keep copies of any invoices you may need to refer to while they are missing in action at HMRC. It was 20 weeks before I saw mine again. -
I have an £8 egg boiler from Aldi ?
-
Would do again: Induction Hob. Always preferred gas but the induction hob has converted me. UFH Open plan kitchen / family room (with separate formal lounge that’s only used when people come). Would like: ASHP Single Phase electric so that I could get a smart meter and use a variable tariff. PV instead of solar thermal. Boiling water tap. 2 dishwashers. Plenty of room for this and a house this size makes it easy to justify. Larger utility and services rooms. I could easily spare a metre off the main kitchen / family room and not notice but this space would be very beneficial in the utility and services rooms. One of the showers to be electric so that if the boiler failed I had a backup. Wouldn’t do again: Central vacuum. I just never use it as I have 2 cordless vacs (one upstairs, one downstairs) that I just whizz round with in less time than dragging out metres of vacuum pipe and putting it away again afterwards. Electric boiler (would have been much cheaper to run an oil boiler even if less green). Installing the MVHR unit in the loft when it would be much more convenient in the services room.

First of all you need to read the following to ensure that you retain the ability to pay 5% VAT on any work done by VAT registered builders. This is from VAT notice 708. I don’t believe that you can use your Ltd company to put through purchase of building materials through for the following reasons: You would have to pay the going rate for work done through a Ltd company that would need to be put through as income on which you would be charged Corporation Tax. If you are talking about charging the going rate through your company this might be a possibility. If you do the work for free or almost free, and only repay the cost of materials this isn’t legal as you are not then buying the materials for the business. A ltd company can’t be used as a halfway house to avoid paying VAT. If there were a sudden increase in purchases without a corresponding increase in sales this may appear suspicious and could leave you open to an inspection which would be very tricky to negotiate. They have 6 years to open a case so this approach is not recommended and no sane accountant would advise you to do this. For an IT company to suddenly start building transactions might be a bit suspicious. You definitely need professional advice on this.

I thought that they gave you a reason (see this post) and it was because the primary function is as a hob? That doesn’t explain the position with an aga but that’s been allowed for donkey’s years so I doubt that they could alter that now. https://forum.buildhub.org.uk/topic/16488-vat-claim-on-hob-with-built-in-extraction/?do=findComment&comment=270033

Maybe no need. I just read something about reclaiming VAT for goods imported from non EU countries and it said that proof of VAT paid and shipping documents are required so I guess now that we’ve left that will be the process for all countries.
-
I think they won’t pay these as the VAT has to be present on the invoice but I guess we will see in due course.
