Lol I didn’t even notice that! ?

But you weren’t planning to do something out of the ordinary back then ?. When I did a bit of grouting I looked for something similar and came across what looked like a giant icing bag. Reviews were crap though so I decided against.

Go on the tilers’ forum and ask and ensure that you post the link here! ?

Don't forget to pay that bill!
newhome replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
A company my hubby was involved with when we lived down south regularly used to go and remove kit if they didn’t get paid (electric gates mostly). Generally once someone started removing it the home owner paid up. I think they had something in their contract that said that the goods were owned by them until the bill was paid. -
Yes, I can’t see why ripping the roof off or getting a specialist company to remove asbestos is able to be zero rated yet terminating a services supply as part of a demolition cannot be.

Bath Surround / Boxing In, and concealed pipework
newhome replied to Onoff's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
I’m with you, that would irritate my OCD! The tiles would have to line up for me to relax in that bath ? ? -
We didn’t have huge fees either because we bought a plot where the planning permission and building warrant were in place and in fact the foundations were already laid and the water supply was connected. That’s probably not that common however but we thus avoided paying for PP, building warrant, main structural engineer, architect, muck away and probably a few other things such as surveys. The downside was that we were pretty much tied to the house design although we were able to alter the internal layout and construction method.

Has anyone tried this? It’s not available to those who can access bank lending but there must be some who can’t get a standard mortgage for a variety of reasons? https://www.mygov.scot/self-build-loan-fund/

As long as they’re not unveiling @Onoff body shots I think we’re ok ?????

Temporary security / safety site fencing
newhome replied to Randomiser's topic in Planning Permission
So I found an application for retrospective approval for a Heras fence in a conservation area in Kent. The site in question was next to some listed buildings. Despite the objections from the parish council and 6 neighbours the application was approved for a period of 12 months as the need to secure the site was deemed to trump the objections which included: . This was for a site without planning permission to build houses (permission had already been refused 4 times). I suspect that if you had PP and were actively building then you may not even need the fence to be approved by planning anyway. They did however have to agree to change the colour of the fence back to its original colour as it was painted pink in places . -
Temporary security / safety site fencing

I can’t see how planning can possibly object to a recognised security fence (Heras) being put up for health and safety purposes. You have much more to fear from h&s than planning I suspect. -
Don't forget to pay that bill!
newhome replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Allegedly he hadn’t been paid since before Christmas and had to go through Christmas with no money. Whilst I don’t condone his actions I can see how this may have caused him to flip. A go fund me campaign to pay him the £600 has already hit 3k. -
Welcome! We love seeing plans and photos on here so please post away.

You could still ask for the invoice to be zero rated I suspect if you can be bothered ...
-
As @Bitpipe says most of the comms from HMRC note ‘new supply’ but given that demolition is covered under zero rating you might be lucky with this. I would take a punt and ask for the invoices to be zero rated. It’ll only cost you the price of a stamp. @PeterStarck disconnected his services fairly recently. Not sure whether that was zero rated or not.

Looks like that bath’s being used! Best crack on with the grout so that water doesn’t seep under the tiles ... ?

Looking for a part time Project Manager
newhome replied to Wrekin1's topic in Project & Site Management
Direct advertising isn’t allowed on BuildHub (see info from the site guidelines below) so no one can directly offer you their services in this respect. We do allow members to recommend services or goods but tbh from the many posts on here I don’t think that many people use a standalone project manager. It seems to be a role that they either choose to do themselves, or the main contractor covers it as per your original plan. Some people appoint the architect to cover the role I believe. This was an approach that @ultramods considered I believe before he decided to do it himself. @lizzie appointed a PM for her build but it didn’t seem to be a great experience in that she ended up doing a great deal of the work herself in the end. There are other self build sites on Facebook, some more active than others, and most seem to allow advertising so you could maybe ask on one of those? Alternatively if a member wants to recommend someone they could send you names by PM but having a stand-alone PM seems like an expensive exercise so maybe there just aren’t too many people who chose to manage their build in this way? Commercial Content and Advertising BuildHub has a strict no-advertising policy, and you must not submit content for commercial gain. If you do recommend a product or service, please ensure that you have no commercial incentive to do so. -
Seems to only be required if you are using an impermeable surface. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/permeable-surfacing-of-front-gardens-guidance

If you go on Grand Designs it seems like you can always do Airbnb afterwards. https://www.granddesignsmagazine.com/grand-designs-houses/335-7-grand-designs-tv-houses-you-can-stay-in-2

WTF!!! I must have missed this (thankfully!). Anyway it was much later by the looks of things but I'll say it again - WTF!!!
-
Thank feck there is no link! Keith Chegwin was on it and he died a year or so ago so maybe it won't be on again (at least I hope it'll never see the light of day again!!).

Probably best to start a new topic in the relevant forum when you are ready to decide with some supporting photos so that people can see what the deal is. We have a few people who are / have insulated their older properties who can no doubt say what they did.

I went on TV in 1987 and to my horror the BBC still sometimes repeats it 30 bloody years later!!
-
@canalsiderenovation I think you should go on TV if only so we can all be ridiculously nosey about your build plus you can come on here afterwards and try to persuade us that you’re not the monster / idiot or whatever that the TV company made you out to be ?? Wonder if you get censored until the programme was aired meaning you couldn’t come on a public forum like this and ask for advice on stuff?
