  1. Thanks for the replies folks. The timber frame guys are saying they normally allow 20mm which should be fine tbh as we are having vinyl throughout most of the house which is around 5mm. That will leave 15mm for airflow.
  2. Our timber frame manufacturer has emailed today to ask about our door gaps for our airflow requirements. Is there a standard size for this for mvhr? Thanks in advance.
  3. Thanks
  4. @NSS what company did you use of the stairs? We are keen for something along the same lines for our build. Thanks
  5. @ryder72 Would you say these are a better option that an induction hob with pop up downdraft extractor? I really need to make a choice early to get ducting in place before the slab pour.
  6. Sorry to dig up an old thread but we met our builder yesterday and extractors came up in discussion. Is this the siemens product? https://donaghybros.co.uk/cooking/built-in/hobs/siemens-ex875lx34e-induction-hob.html?fo_c=876&fo_k=622b05d8d47fcb71c39d037e071bde31&fo_s=gplauk&gclid=CjwKCAjwuITNBRBFEiwA9N9YEGZh7D74v6qaFgor9R6mXdNeMBvMwKw0zCmrkhYs6ZIFzavIw3w02BoCTc8QAvD_BwE
  7. When we were renovating our last house I had been to toolstation to pick an new radiator for one of the bedrooms. Drove home and took it out the packaging ready to start fitting it, only to discover that the radiator side panel had a small ding in it. Being a 1 hour round trip to exchange I considered if I could maybe persuade the small ding out but came to the conclusion that as it was just bought it should be perfect. So I then jumped into the wife's car and rushed down to exchange it........................in my mad rush (not breaking any speeding laws here btw) I thought I could make it through an amber light but the car in front decided otherwise!! Needless to say my wifes car had a nice dent in it as did the car in front............although our replacement radiator was dent fee
  8. I have always found ikea customer service to be great. When we fitted one of their kitchens in our last house we were running late with getting the gas pipe moved and some other plumbing stuff, so they agreed to store the kitchen until we were ready for delivery for no extra charge. Also when the worktop turned up I noticed a scratch at one end, so called up to advise. They requested I take some pictures and send them over. They got back to us and agreed to give us £200 gift vouchers. As it turned my friend ended up cutting the scratched part off anyway as the worktop was ordered a bit longer than needed.......result
  9. Interested to here the replies on this as its crossed my mind not to bother with warranty either. We will have a sizeable mortgage once complete to don't want to be limited to certain lenders when we come to remortgage.
  10. Thanks for that @jamiehamy Our plot is made up ground so hopefully won't need a machine as big as 30t but nice to get a ballpark.
  11. Does this include getting rid of your spoil? Or are you using what's excavated elsewhere? I'm looking at excavation of roughly the same amount for our founds and trying to get some prices together.
  12. The quote hasn't included tile battens but the price came back as £1700 for supply and install of roof felt and fly batten...........so just a guess at £3k for tile battens as to be honest.
  13. Yes I did think that this might be the case. I just need to see if spending the extra £3k for battens and counter battens is going to be worthwhile in terms of payback from the panels.
  14. I used JG speed fit when redoing a bathroom in our old house. Great stuff I found. Didn't have any leaks and also the speed fit pipe is marked so you know if the fitting is fully seated correctly. Even replaced a few old weeping compression joints with the stuff and I have no complaints. Very easy to use and having done a kitchen many years ago using copper and compression joints I would use the speedfit stuff again. Heard of a few folk who have had issues with the cheaper grey coloured (not sure of brand) fittings though.
  15. Is the advantage for performance of the panels or something else? Not having battens and counter battens seems to be bringing the timber frame package down by about £3k.
  16. i had budgeted £5k for our PV install although seeing as the prices of every other part of our build are coming in above expected maybe I should just use the savings to cover other costs... If if only I had this problem with the foundation costs!!
  17. I've spoken again to the installer about the in roof kit and he assures me that if I am installing with slate the roof does not require to be battened at all. Does this sound right? In Scotland it is normal practice to just slate straight onto sarking although I thought that for the in roof kits there needed to be battens and counter battens to allow air flow behind? However I found this via the Easy roof website -
  18. Yes he is aware that its two elevations prior to him pricing to system. I am only getting one shot at this as its an in roof system although I may decide to add some west facing panels to the garage at a later date................although this will be on roof I wonder if I should be going for a bigger system?
  19. Yeah the installer was also saying that I may be able to get an interest free loan from the Home energy Scotland for £2.5k. This would no doubt help the budget a little but I will need to speak to them first. He is suggesting 8 panels facing south and 4 west, as not all 12 panels with fit on our south facing roof. Anyone know if the sofar inverter is any good?
  20. Agree with the above, any time I've taken anything back to srewfix they have been fine with it
  21. Ok so I have recieved another quote in for the system. Details below - 12 x 285 Solar World All Black panels IRFTS Easy Roof in roof system Generation Meter Landis Gyr single phase Sofar 3680 Inverter 2 x MPT 4mm DC cable x 12m DC Isolator x1 6mm 3 core 12m This would provide a 3.42kw system via an MCS installer and registered for FIT. The price came back at £3.5k + vat (although I wont be paying the vat due to it being zero rated)
  22. Doing the calculations a 3kw system at £4.2k would take 17 years to pay back although with a diverter to heat hot water this could well be less. I think the cheapest I could get a DIY in roof system would be £2.5k.............surely the extra £1.7k is a worth while to get the extra FIT and export payment?
  23. @dogman I've spoke and had prices back from a few timber frame companies but our plot is made up ground and because of this our structural engineer has stipulated we do trench fill foundation to hard ground. Problem is our borehole samples for the soil came back with hard ground being at depths of up to 3m...........needless to say this is having a large cost impact for our standard standard strip foundations. Passive raft foundations seem all the more attractive!!! I have no worries about MBC given the feedback on here and ebuild..................my concern is my own talents at attempting to arrange all the other trades around them
  24. How would we go about getting this registered for FIT if we bought the kit? Sorry for the newbie question but I was of the understanding that we would need to use an mcs registered installed who would no doubt want to supply there own equipment.
  25. This looks to get progressing well @dogman. I am seriously considering using MBC after reading various builds on the forum. Most general builders I have made contact with have either not bothered to reply with quotes for our build or appear to be stuck in the dark ages and cant seem to comprehend how a passive raft slab can possibly work
