I cycled it north to south in 1999. It is a varied coast, disappointingly familiar to the mundane parts of the UK coast in places.

You need to be careful alleging that, your tactic should be to reveal to the planning office that they are being deceived by false information and not allege they are willing conspirators in criminal activity. The planners might have offered pre application advice but was this based on bad information?

Is your property is one of those centuries old Norman timber frame black and white structures? That would be a Q&A challenge for the forum. I lived near Honfleur for a summer and have sailed that coast.

Does the brickie team know they are laying 19kg heavies? Brickies are very particular about the specifics of stacking, might be worth asking them how far from the wall.
-
Are those 19kg heavies? If so they absorb less water than lighter blocks.
-
Will the brickies try to compensate for the wet blocks by mixing a drier/stiffer mortar?
-
How wet are these blocks? Some blocks discolour when they absorb a bit of overnight dew. You could try weighing a sample then compare with the manufacturers dry weight spec. A truly sodden block will be noticeably heavier.

Working out how much of an old property should be dismantled is harder than a clean sheet new build, so I reckon you are smarter than the average self build bear.

It is fairly clear once you get to know the site, look under the pair of orange buy-now or add to basket buttons. I usually only buy supplied by and fulfilled by Amazon unless it is a fringe cheap product in which case I just look for fulfilled by Amazon. You are correct in thinking that if Amazon neither supplies or fulfills then their site is acting as an umbrella retail web site.

Dry Hip and Dry Ridge problem on new build
epsilonGreedy replied to Tomfromsurrey's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
Before making a life decision consider this outcome. Five years from now you and your wife pass by the development then decide to stroll by this property out of curiosity to see if walking away in 2020 was the right decision. The current owner is outside, you get talking and he confirms there were some problems with the roof which jointly cost him and the developer £5k to fix. Otherwise the owner is happy and enthuses about the quality of like in this choice location and niche development. You then both return to your car feeling deflated. How much will you save in stamp duty by proceeding now? I suggest you are in a long way both emotionally and in legal fees. It might be worth stumping up another few £ grand for a highly detailed survey where the surveyor spends the best part of a day crawling all over the property looking for faults. If problems are limited to the roof, then the problems can be fixed. -
Dry Hip and Dry Ridge problem on new build

What problems can you see in the gable brickwork? Patchy colours suggest bricks were not picked from multiple packs? I see some effort put into a decorative gable with oversailing top courses combined with corbeling. -
I am thinking about improving the public facing side of my site for Christmas by finishing half the driveway with the top layer of gravel. The current surface is made from 2" clean limestone plus various build detritus that has accumulated over 2 years. The preferred top dressing is 10mm to 20mm Derby White which looks like Cotswold stone but is not as crumbly hence it should not turn to mush through frost damage. The area is 100 m2 which equates to 3 to 4 tons for a thin coverage. Given the expense of the dressing gravel and the relatively large voids between the larger 2" hardcore base would it make more sense to apply an intermediate layer of cheaper 1" limestone?

@storminateacup makes a good point. Major constitutional changes typically require more than a simple 50.001% win to be put into effect. Cameron made a technical blunder agreeing to a simple majority referendum, this is because he was an arrogant toff of a PM who thought he could dragoon the little people into voting for remain.

A country gets the papers and media it deserves. The media serves up that the nation wants to hear about the present. It is a symbiotic relationship. LIkewise the function of historians to reaffirm what a culture wants to believe out its past. While you identify genuine current problems it is very dangerous to try and legislate to enforce media honesty, the Soviets tried that. Who defines the contents of this new element to the curriculum? That will end up being a politically biased process. Current attempts to educate children about their culture are highly troubling because this is infused with woke left wing identity politics. One credible attempt to correct this trend by a single teacher Eton resulted in his censure by the authorities, all because he encouraged children to consider if male & female human traits were influenced by both culture and genetics.

Which plastic type for a temporary window glazing?
epsilonGreedy posted a topic in Windows & Glazing
I am putting in OSB window blanks at the moment to close up the house shell for the winter but would like to let a little natural light in so I am not 100% dependant on internal electric work lights. My idea is to have 2 glazed windows in the smallest apertures. I need to make a decision re. plastic type and thickness. Polycarbonate or Perspex Acrylic (or even glass). Thickness... I assume 3mm or 4mm will do? The largest window pane size will be 750 x 600 and the house is in a sheltered position. -
What worries me is that there has been further movement since the mastic was used to seal the initial crack, this suggests the problem is ongoing and developing further. In general surveyors and builders are not too troubled by cracks providing they understand why the crack originally developed and are satisfied the motive force behind the problem has ceased.

My guess is that we will "leave" without a deal because a further official extension of the transition period would damage Boris's reputation in the pro Brexit camp. However both sides will agree not to change anything for another year while the fine details of Brexit are sorted out.

On a related point, do the LPG bottle regs allow a bottle and ASHP to be collocated at an outside wall?
-
That is my plan, 47kg bottles are an avoidable orange blot on the landscape if just used for cooking.

What is this spinning bevel edge planer called?

I think I would also use a clamped batten as a guide for the edge of the router. -
What is this spinning bevel edge planer called?
epsilonGreedy replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Tools & Equipment
Ok thanks all, I have never owned or used a router before. The router in the video seems to be attached to a larger baseplate so that it glides over the fascia plank, is this an accessory that can be attached to most routers? -

Hmm I am thinking about the scale of the job with 50m of fascia and trying to maintain a consistent bevel depth manually. Do you think manual planning is feasible for an L-shaped house with a hipped roof?
