Short of buying one of each - does anyone have an opinion on the best looking MVHR valves? Most functional? The plaster in ones like Ergovent?

In general, does any 125mm make valve fit any make valve adaptor?

Honestly, once you have been in the house a month you never look at them. If you asked my wife what they were like, she would have no idea.

Important to me was the extract terminals could take a cone filter and was easy to replace. That keeps loads of dust out of the ducts.

Yes just about any 125mm valve will fit any 125mm adapter.

I’ve fitted 4 Ergovent units for my current client, and I think they look the dachshunds danglers. We’ve looked at some slightly nicer ones (than the petrol station toilet ones that come as a knee jerk 🤢🤮👎) for the less frequented rooms.

For bed 1, and the 3 in the open plan liv / dine / kitchen area, with nice new vaulted ceilings, I suggested we go for less conspicuous plaster-in units so the ceilings could lend themselves to lighting and have fewer wall (ceiling) warts to detract from that.

Pradovent trimless, slightly more expensive, but look a bit more forgiving for installation.  My plenums we installed a bit tight to joists so the ergovent became too much of a challenge, so I’m going to give the Pradovent a shot.

"petrol station toilet ones" :D

Those are the one's I'm having, on the basis of ↓

I noticed that many of the nicer looking ones don't allow for flow control at the valve (unlike the "petrol station toilet ones", which do). May not be an issue but worth considering.

Ergovent

Gee £75 each - my coanda nozzles, got 6 off them, they are Zehnder Circular Coanda Dia 90 mm, White, £8 each, the adjusters are another £18 each if you need them, I needed 2x. Plus I didn't need 6x 125mm nozzle adapters and they reduced duct lengths by over 20m.

Plenty of options out there, these are what I suggested to the client for this particular project as they are far less conspicuous and the lighting plan doesn’t need anything competing with it for ceiling space / flow.

£75 isn’t much money, and I only suggested these where they’re in the ‘eye line’.

Or to folk making a whole new home ;)

Who will then do £5k on worktops :/

Value is in the eye of the beholder, so each to their own, ‘matey’ :D
