Nickfromwales Posted yesterday at 10:57 Posted yesterday at 10:57 Split A/C, or stand alone unit in room which you mothball for the winter?

They're dear and noisy. I do like the idea though. Ideally I'd like one with no indoor unit like a Mini block A2W. Better efficient and cheaper to buy a split unit. 1

Split system better ? ( not just cost ) . That’s not just plug ‘n play though is it ?

Pocster Posted yesterday at 13:15 Author Posted yesterday at 13:15 Maybe a floor unit? . Usually cheaper . Still got to create a vent hole through the wall either way

So if you’re not 100% sure it’s only one room that’ll ever need (or just be nice to have) A/C then consider a unit that can be added to, maybe?

ProDave Posted yesterday at 13:26 Posted yesterday at 13:26 A plug in AC unit that has a big vent pipe to get outside somehow to remove the hot air, will annoy the hell out of you. They are so noisy. I would have to be VERY overheated to put up with the noise of that. We have one from 2 houses ago. We tried running it in the bedroom when we were downstairs in the hope it would cool the room enough to turn it off when we went to bed, but it had not really cooled the fabric of the building so soon warmed up again. 1

I put one in my boys attic room, 180mm hole through stone. Not very noisy tbf, but I didn’t buy a cheap one. Still £400 vs 4 figures. Wish I’d bit the bullet and did split to 4 FF bedrooms and 1 to attic….I hate being hot 🥵

Tides in, so all the bodies are crammed together. While it is sunny, this east wind is chilly, causes body parts to stiffen up. Has that helped. Edited yesterday at 13:41 by SteamyTea
