About the fast up and the slow down?

 

(I also cannot help noticing that anyone going up the RHS of the Big Stairs is either going to have to be very short or will have a big bump on their head).

Yup. Q1 was something I may as well have slept through, but now my phone and email is going loop the loop.

 

Q2 into 3 I’ve had a load of new clients drop at the same time, which is your classic “all, or feck all” scenario 😮‍💨.

 

Shouldn’t grumble, as I do know colleagues/trades I’ve previously employed who are still quiet, but now at the stage of passing work on so hopefully that’ll be good for the rest of the year 🤞🙏.

The big stairs is a display area.  The actual flight is on the left.  I will be interested to see how it looks when finished.

Hard to tell at the moment. 

 

As as designer I'm still turning down offers of projects that I get through my (outdated) website as I don't really look beyond a 3 - 4 month workload. 

 

This matters in that if I'm not designing stuff for Planning / BC and doing structural calculations then the builders can't start. The majority of my work is derived from two streams. First is repeat business working directly for Clients and that is holding up well. The other is for example where builders will go to see a Client and then pass on my name as a designer. This is more patchy. In otherwords I'm a bit like seaweed when you use it a bellweather. 

 

One thing is that for the legitimate builders / say steel fabricators and designers the hike in NIC contribution is an unwelcome introduction and this is having an impact. This extra cost has to be passed on.

 

Then there are the things you don't see at the outset. BC and Planning fees have gone up for example but the service level has gone down.

Spoke to architect yesterday. He says the BNG is killing the small scale stuff. Nobody has any idea about it including local authorities. Even on the self build exemption you're having to pay for unilateral undertaking. I've got a small bit of ground near me storing some gear on suitable for pair of semis. I'm going to wait till this scheme gets axed for smaller sites. Architect agrees and says others doing the same. This must be going to impact the pipeline of jobs going forward. Does it apply to extensions over the certain size too?
