Hi everyone!

I’m reaching out to those who may not have seen my self-build survey yet.

I’m a PhD student at the University of Nottingham researching self-build processes in the UK, and I’d greatly appreciate your input!

As a thank-you, participants have the chance to win a £50 Amazon gift card draw :)

Your responses will be completely anonymous and the survey only take 7-9 minutes.

Because academic research is important.

Without the science, and data to back it up, we just get opinions, and they are dangerous.

Of course it is

and you really believe this is Genuine ?

Reaching out

Offering Amazon vouchers 😂😂

We had one recently that was asking the household disposable income

At what point would you personally be suspicious

It is usual now to offer vouchers for participating.

I was the only person to turn up at a research project and they gave me all the £20 vouchers, so ended up with £200 to spend.

Is it usually to ask the household income on a none sales survey

Im curious

Why didn’t you respond to her genuine request Or anyone else for that matter

It can’t be just me that was suspicious

Its good that you see the world in such a positive manner

Just don’t give your bank details out to any cold callers

Sadly yes, South West Water did a survey the other day and asked my income level.

I terminated the interview.

I am an optimist.

Why not, it is anonymous and it gives the response a load of contextual information although I suspect most people on here fall into a small set of common socioeconomic groups. Also vouchers and other tiny incentives - larger ones would stretch ethical rules and finances, are commonplace these days. All the relevant details of the study were posted with it and there was / is no compulsion to take part. Finally and perhaps most interesting point is that you (we all) already give this information to the world, well the tech giants, in our social media, online purchasing, lifestyle and public demeanor. It's just that researchers have to ask for it because the tech giants don't give it away. All that said scepticism is a useful trait, it often keeps us safe.

@nod I sent  a personal message and was happy with the response seeming genuine. So I'm happy nobody is being conned, but your concern is

maybe genuine I think it was the Amazon vouchers that alerted me

Had it been an email the mention of vouchers would have sent it straight to SPAM

Im Just curious why no one took the time to answer this GENUINE SURVEY

Aren't both pronouns a little assumptive? You know what these academics are like!

"Their" would perhaps me more appropriate...

As far as I am aware a lot of people have completed this survey. Perhaps you should give your head a shake. I suppose it is a Sunday morning.

Ahhhh, the relaxing calm of the sabbath.

Ok folks, this has been decided to be genuine enough, and anyone who isn’t interested please just click on something else, simples.

No more head shaking, please.

The mods will decide what stays or goes and what is or isn’t spam. We’ve been doing this reasonably well for many years, and our regular members report improper content and it gets flushed as required, and this means that this forum is quite a nice place to hang around on. ;)

All good, chill out folks, go get a roast beef dinner, and……………..“breathe” :)

The management. :P

That sounds like hard work, hadn't planned that today. Wife has left over french onion soup for her and I've got left over Mac n cheese to eat.

Largely what the pub is for, someone else cooks and does the dishes, and you get some flavourful lubrication to boot.

Mac ‘n cheese is the bomb, especially if it’s homemade. Enjoy.

Thank you very much! Yes, 95 people have participated so far, but I need to reach 170 to make the data statistically sound for analysis and use in my thesis.

Do you need people who have done self build or will people that are thinking about it help you reach the target?

The survey is for three groups of people: those who already have a self-build home, those currently involved in a self-build project, and those who want to have a self-build home in the future. The questionnaire adapts based on your responses, so all of these groups are welcome to participate.

Thank you so much! :)

What sort of question is this?

image.thumb.png.0ce33f4a4e293983e3ce1e7f52cd4d96.png

It's lacking context - per m3 - per m2

So this is a follow-up to a previous question. We added a note below that question explaining what we meant by environmentally friendly and energy-efficient features, but I guess I should add that in here also. Thank you for the feedback, I'll revise it! :)

Biggest issue many face is with the process of getting planning permission. Not sure if the survey will capture that.

It took us over a year and a lot of money and C02 to get approval. Most of the delay was due to a lack of resources in the planning department, turn over of staff and a lack of consistency. They told the previous owner of the plot one thing and told me the exact opposite.

Yes, you can and are welcome to express those issues in the survey. So far, the survey responses show that the biggest issues are planning permissions and finding available plots for self-builds. But it's still an ongoing study, so I'll definitely share the results here (if I can get more participants of course🙏)
