Coldwells Passivhaus Turnkey Houses.

Recommended Posts

Have just received details of Coldwells new concept of turnkey Passivhaus designs.  Pick your design and they'll do it all for you or build to weather proof and you finish off.

Initial thoughts are that they look like a good idea.  But cannot see a plant room in the plans.  Are they calling it a utility room?  I like the Argyle. 🤔😁

Have had a look at their website and signed up for the download.

"That’s why we're simplifying the path to Passivhaus ownership, by taking the complexity out of the build process."

Now that would be refreshing if they can actually deliver what it says on the tin.

From their website..

A People Centred Approach

Founders Clare and Ross Booth share how their people-centred approach and compact Aberdeenshire team...

Aberdonians tend to be of practical mind with their head screwed on the right way.. sounds hopeful.

Good to see someone offering this, but I don't find their designs inspiring, I looked at the floorplan of one claiming to be space efficient use, but it is nowhere near as good as my own house that I designed (but I am biased of course)

Re no plant room.  I don't believe they are really needed as a separate space.  My "stuff" is all distributed and placed where best for use, I see no need to put it all together in one place.

The owners of the company are on the HousePlanningHelp podcast number 362 for a talk on making Passivhaus easier.

https://www.houseplanninghelp.com/podcast/

They do say that initially they will limit the number taken on to 6 per year but hope to increase slowly, should the demand increase.  And really, its only for Aberdeenshire. But hopefully others will follow suit if it takes off.

plant rooms". Not necessary

A normal sized house doesn't need one, and the ancillary heat from pumps and tanks etc is in the house, so not wasted.

If you do want one  it never has to be as big as plumbers and electricians say...it's nice for them at your cost.

Seems expensive. Davidson 170m2 on their self build price is around £1600 sqm for a shell. That doesn’t include groundworks either.. and, in my opinion, very bland layouts and designs.
