Adsibob
I have a boiling hot water tap which has broken. Upon consulting the manufacturer, they identified that I need to change a valve, which they have sent me. It requires a 17mm socket. So out I went to screwfix and bought this: https://www.screwfix.com/p/forge-steel-3-8-drive-socket-set-18-pieces/917pg But the problem is the socket is only about 12mm deep and that’s doesn’t reach deep enough to make contact with the hexagonal valve. This is incredibly frustrating. i can return this socket wrench, but need an alternative please.

Alan Ambrose
You should be able roughly measure what length you need. Something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Siegen-S0595-Drive-WallDrive®-Socket/dp/B000ROB1AM/ref=asc_df_B000ROB1AM/

Some spark plugs are 17mm so it shouldn’t be hard to find a box spanner or a spark plug socket - they are extended length
Conor
I think you can still buy individual sockets in Halfords, and they do deep ones as I've a 80mm deep 17mm socket from there. And great quality.

Quite happy to print you one and post it to try. How long would you like it? How do you want to turn it, via a ratchet or bigger spanner / adjustable etc? Any restriction on the overall "socket" diameter? A thicker wall makes it stronger. A squirt of penetrating oil I'm sure would help whatever, a few days before unscrewing.
