Jenki
That will offset China's New 70GW plants built in 2023.... AT least we in the UK can feel smug that were clean while half the population can choose to freeze or starve to death.

jack
And once cheap grid-scale batteries are available, they'll install those (no nimbys to slow them down), and their renewables will really come into their own.

Oz07
Why is Ratcliffe on Soar earmarked for demolition. Surely its better to mothball until our capacity is better

Apart the costs of maintaining it in working condition, together with a trained workforce, you'd also need stop the redevelopment of the coal docks (or open new docks) at Immingham then mothball them too. At a guess, they still have a shortfall in alternatives after loosing & taking nuclear plants off-line with the Fukushima disaster?
