Perils of self-building. Concrete in my tea

Recommended Posts

I have a habit of drinking tea on the job. And not drinking all of it because I let it go cold. Doing a lot of concreting at the moment

Imagine my surprise then when I took the mug out of the dishwasher to find concrete spatters all over the inside at the bottom of the mug - even after a hot wash.

Reusing the mug, the concrete makes no difference.

Better keep this one quiet before the HSE gets in on the act

Yes, my tea habit too when working on the house or our vehicles - I've drunk many a tea-drowned fly on a summers day, cue coughing and spluttering, and god only knows how much plaster, bits of rust, weld spatter etc I've ingested, though I have to say since the waxoil I've not suffered any internal corrosion as far as I know :D  Must learn to look at it before drinking.

But that's exactly the problem : when you do look, you can't see it - because it's sticking to the bottom of the inside of the partly full mug. And, if like me you never get to the end of a mug of tea, yer stuffed. The last bit of tea is camouflaging the concrete.

I like the idea of the  Tommee Tippee mug, though.   Just need the grandad version.

The solution is perhaps an insulated lorry-driver's travel cup.

it's all I drink from on site,

a) the tea (coffee in my case) stays warm

b) you can see all the crap on the lid

c) they're about £2.50 from QD

d) you can drive with them

e) they're bigger

f) you can drop them

g) you can hang them from a scaffold pole by the handle

h) the handle hangs on your belt

i) someone is usually giving them away free

........... why would you use a normal mug????

i was going to get some printed up but there was a minimum order of 100 :(

Herb tea or a glass mug.

Lets hope your household porcelain survives

I am not allow household porcelain on site (its all Emma Bridgewater) I have £1 mugs from Lidl - but lots of them so when one gets dirty I just pile it up and have a wash up at the end of the week - oh hang on have I reacted to the first part of of this post and missed the contextual confirmation at the end....O.o Anyway I have some stuff that eats concrete but not mugs so if I get any splashes I can clean it off...

My overriding impression of my first trip to Nova Scotia in nearly 30 years is that every drink is served in a paper cup.

Taken me 10 days to find a cafe that sells in a porcelain mug.  Coffee was dreadful, bleeding organic.

Give me the sweat of uneducated child labour any day.

Mind you, it is only C$2.15, or around £1.30 in real money with the Queen's head on it.

How uncivilised.

Yes, but the are so nice about it, I can almost forgive them.

Even my bacon and egg sandwich came on a paper place.  It was nothing like a bacon and egg sandwich though.  And no HP sauce that I could see.
