Question Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 We have an unvented system with two expansion vessels, a larger white one and a smaller red one.  We would like to paint the red one white, so it looks better in the room. I understand the vessels are used to manage the water pressure and don't get hot.  Would it be OK to paint the red one white?  Has anyone painted one of these? Â
JohnMo Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 I believe the colours signify different services, white being drinking water and red for a heating system i.e. not drinking water. Â Could be wrong, but either way life is to short, get a hobby if that's all you have to worry about. 1 1
nod Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 I donât think this is allowed Now if you wanted to paint a white one red That would be okÂ
Kelvin Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 When you say to look better in the room. Is this in a room you sit in every day? If so, you have bigger aesthetics to worry about/ignore. If not, why do you care what colour it is?Â
saveasteading Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 Box them in. Everything is black in the dark, so they will match.
nod Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 Just a small chance that itâs a windup đđđđđ 1

Question Posted April 12, 2023 Author Posted April 12, 2023 My wife is not happy with how our utility room looks with two expansion vessels one of which is red.   We have explored all sorts of ideas like having a wooden surround but it would take up a lot of space, and a cupboard in front of it (which we got but doesn't really work).Â
ProDave Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Well painting it any colour you like is not going to alter the function so I see nothing wrong with you painting it.
TonyT Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Paint it and put a label on it, adjacent to it explaining the function so the next person working on it has an idea 1

All you need to do is apply a label stating âheating system - non potable serviceâ on it and go for pink.  I suspect you have many more of these suchlike items to deal with, if this is an issue, but thatâs life! Or, Close the cupboard door, move on with your lives. đđđ”âđ«
JohnMo Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Just ignore the requests, find other jobs to do, in a couple of weeks she will be nagging you to do something else way more importantÂ
