Hi folks is it better to screw or nail cladding and if so any fixing brand suggestions?

We start cladding in feather edge larch next week and have a lot different ways of doing it.

I thought nails (stainless steel?!) might be cleaner?

Any input or pics greatly appreciated.

the larch has a rebate in theory hiding one fixing.

 Thanks

Stainless ring groove nails. I used a nail gun, with a smooth head, so it didn't damage the wood.

Don't use carbon steel, nails or screws as this will lead to black streaks on the wood after a few month's.

One builder/ carpenter did the main building with nails (gun) very quick but unforgiving. The other builder (day rate) prefers screws, as you can remove without wrecking the wood if needs be.

Nails quicker and cheaper, screws more forgiving and easier to remove. Like with everything else in self-build, it's a trade-off.

I did mine with a nail gun (stainless). No regrets.

Any particular type? Full round head?

Alpha Pneumatic Supplies sell full round head annular ring stainless steel nails suitable for 34 degree framing nailers. I think they probably do them for 21 degree nailers too. Brand is normally Beck fasteners. https://nailers.co.uk/ Usually best to call them.

Defo stainless ring-shank. How many times do you need to remove? Plus, this will be captive, so the lot would have to come off, up to the point you needed access.

If you ever need to remove a plank, just use a pin-punch to drive the nail all the way through and out the back of the plank to release it.
