Arnold9801 Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 I'm just about to lay my green chipboard t&g flooring on top of the beams. I'll screw them down but which adhesive is best to use on the joints? Arnold9801
SuperPav Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 Any "D4" adhesive will do the job. This sort of thing: https://amzn.to/3e3I9Vf If you can be bothered, I'd glue the boards to the joists as well, this will result in a much stiffer structure.
nod Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 Caberfix D4 I wouldn’t screw them down Better using a ring nail
joe90 Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 (edited) My floor was glued only (D4) to joists and themselves, very solid, no squeaks In 2 years. Edited December 17, 2021 by joe90
Mr Punter Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 It is very messy and does not come off your hands for a couple of days. 1

Onoff Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 My upstairs 18mm, t&g floor was "screwed" up with PVA and angular ring nails and squeaked like a barsteward. It's a lot better since I put a load of proper, Spax flooring screws in.
Arnold9801 Posted December 17, 2021 Author Posted December 17, 2021 I need quite a lot with 100 x8ft x 2ft boards to lay. Would there be much difference if I use normal white pva wood adhesive instead of a D4? The reason I ask is due to availability and need to buy 25litres which I will have to mail order!
bassanclan Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 Any D4 will do. Normal pva is no good. D4 is expanding glue and much stronger. Easily available online or from Toolstation or Screwfix

JamesP Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 I used screws and Caberfix D4 on top of the joists and joints, wear gloves.

bassanclan Posted December 17, 2021 Posted December 17, 2021 (edited) Before you use it drop the bottle into a bucket of hot water, it will make it more runny and flow easier. For 100 boards i doubt you will use more than 2l Much easier to use from the purpose made bottles unless that is mega cheap Edited December 17, 2021 by bassanclan
SimonD Posted December 18, 2021 Posted December 18, 2021 I think there is some confusion here about what glues are what. The D4 category is simply a durability category for interior areas exposed to frequent wetting, or external use. What you need is a polyurethane glue that expands within the joints of the boards as well as at the joist board connection. The D4 everbuild glue linked to doesn't do that. @nod suggested the Caberfix. You can also use the Soudal 30min or 5min PU wood glue, which also gently expands. example PU wood glues: https://www.ironmongerydirect.co.uk/product/soudal-trade-30min-d4-pu-wood-adhesive-290ml-clear-737362?vat=1&shoppingxp=true&msclkid=591dab1002551015fd7acaade429e924&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Shopping > Top Products&utm_term=4580909046907901&utm_content=Top Products https://www.toolstation.com/30-minute-polyurethane-wood-glue/p52489
